How to use the forecast tool
Two positions, one timeline, your funnel economics. A 12-month position-to-revenue forecast in seconds.
- 01
Enter your keyword set search volume
Add the total monthly search volume for the keywords you're targeting. This can be a single high-volume keyword, or the sum of a cluster you're trying to rank for. Use Google Search Console, Ahrefs, or SEMrush to pull the search volume.
- 02
Set current and target average positions
Enter where you rank today (average position in GSC for your target keyword set) and where you want to be. The tool shows the click-through rate at each position using a CTR curve model, so you can see the traffic difference a 10-position improvement produces.
- 03
Set months to reach your target position
How long will it take to move from your current position to your target? The tool interpolates your position linearly over this period, then holds at the target. 6–12 months is realistic for most competitive keyword sets.
- 04
Enter your funnel economics
Conversion rate (sessions to leads), deal value, and sales close rate let the forecast show revenue – not just traffic. For ecommerce, set close rate to 100% and deal value to average order value.
- 05
Read the month-by-month forecast
The table shows position, CTR, monthly sessions, session change vs prior month, monthly revenue, and cumulative revenue for each of the 12 months. The session change column shows when ranking improvements start compounding into measurable traffic gains.
Why use this forecast tool?
CTR curve model, not a flat growth rate
Most traffic projections use a flat monthly growth rate. This tool models the actual relationship between ranking position and click-through rate – which is non-linear and front-loaded. Moving from position 10 to position 3 is worth far more than moving from position 3 to position 1.
Position → CTR → sessions is how SEO agencies forecast
The CTR-curve approach is standard practice in professional SEO. This tool makes it available without a spreadsheet – set two positions, get a 12-month session and revenue projection.
Cumulative revenue shows the ramp-up value
The month-by-month table shows how long the ramp-up takes and what cumulative revenue is generated during it. A forecast that only shows month-12 traffic ignores the revenue earned in months 1–11.
Useful for pitching SEO investment
The output is designed to answer the investor or CMO question: 'If we move these keywords from page 2 to page 1, what is that worth?' The results panel gives that answer in dollars, with a trajectory table as backup.

Frequently asked questions
What does this SEO forecast tool model?+
The SEO forecast tool uses a click-through rate curve to project organic sessions from ranking position improvements. You enter your current average position, target average position, and months to get there – the tool interpolates position month by month and applies a CTR model (based on Sistrix and Backlinko benchmark data) to project monthly sessions, monthly revenue, and cumulative 12-month revenue. This is a position-based model, not a flat growth rate – it models the actual mechanism of SEO traffic growth. How do you forecast SEO traffic accurately?+
The most accurate SEO traffic forecast method: (1) identify the keyword set you're targeting and sum the monthly search volume; (2) determine your current average position for that keyword set (use Google Search Console); (3) set a target position and a realistic time to reach it; (4) apply CTR benchmarks by position (position 1 ≈ 28.5%, position 3 ≈ 11%, position 5 ≈ 7.2%, position 10 ≈ 2.5%) to project sessions at each position. This SEO forecast tool automates that calculation and projects the trajectory month by month. What CTR data does this SEO forecast tool use?+
The CTR curve is based on blended data from Sistrix and Backlinko position-CTR studies. Key benchmarks: position 1 = 28.5%, position 2 = 15.7%, position 3 = 11.0%, position 4 = 8.0%, position 5 = 7.2%, position 6 = 5.1%, position 7 = 4.0%, position 8 = 3.2%, position 9 = 2.8%, position 10 = 2.5%. Positions 11–20 interpolate linearly from 2.5% to 0.5%. These are averages across query types – branded queries, navigational queries, and featured snippets all have different CTR profiles. B2B commercial intent queries often have lower CTR at position 1 (18–22%) because of SERP features consuming above-fold space. How long does it take to improve from position 15 to position 4?+
Realistic timelines for ranking improvement depend on domain authority, content quality, competition, and link acquisition rate. General benchmarks: moving from position 11–20 to position 4–7 typically takes 4–8 months for a well-optimised page on a moderate-authority domain. Moving from page 2 to top 3 can take 6–12 months for competitive keywords. The SEO forecast tool lets you set any timeline from 1–24 months – use 6 months for a conservative scenario and 12 months for a realistic plan you'll present to stakeholders. What's the difference between this and the SEO Revenue Growth Calculator?+
The SEO Revenue Growth Calculator uses a flat compound monthly session growth rate (e.g., 5%/month) to project revenue. This SEO forecast tool uses a position-based CTR model – you specify which ranking positions you're moving between and the tool derives the session uplift from the CTR difference. The position model is more accurate for projecting the impact of a specific ranking improvement (e.g., 'we're going to move our 25,000-volume keyword cluster from position 15 to position 4'). The growth rate model is better for projecting overall channel trajectory when you're adding many new keywords at once. How do I find my current average position in Google Search Console?+
In Google Search Console: go to Performance → Search results. Set the date range to last 3 months. The 'Average position' metric at the top shows your overall average. To get position for a specific keyword cluster: click '+ New' under Queries, filter to keywords containing your target term, and the average position changes to reflect that subset. For a more accurate forecast, filter to the specific keywords you're trying to rank for rather than using the overall site average. Can I use this SEO forecast tool for a new site or new content?+
Yes, with a modified approach. For new content with no current ranking: set current position to 50 (representing no meaningful traffic) and target position to your goal. The tool will show the traffic value you're building toward. For a new domain: new sites typically take 6–12 months to start ranking competitively, with most authority accumulating in months 6–24. Set a conservative timeline (18–24 months to target) for new site forecasts. The forecast is most reliable for existing pages with known positions that you're actively improving. What search volume should I enter – exact match or broad?+
Use the total keyword cluster volume – the sum of monthly search volume across all the keywords in your target set. If you're targeting 'content automation', 'content automation tools', and 'automated content creation' with volumes of 8,000, 4,500, and 3,200, enter 15,700. Use phrase match or exact match volumes from Ahrefs, SEMrush, or Google Keyword Planner. Broad match volumes are inflated. The goal is to model the realistic traffic available to a page that ranks at your target position for the full intent cluster. Why does moving from position 10 to position 3 matter so much more than moving from position 3 to position 1?+
Because the CTR curve is non-linear and front-loaded. Position 10 gets approximately 2.5% CTR; position 3 gets approximately 11.0% – a 4.4× uplift. Position 3 to position 1 moves from 11.0% to 28.5% – a 2.6× uplift. For a keyword set with 25,000 monthly searches: position 10 generates ~625 sessions; position 3 generates ~2,750 sessions; position 1 generates ~7,125 sessions. The gap between positions 8–15 and positions 1–5 is where the most traffic is unlocked. This is why SEO agencies focus on moving page-2 content to page 1, not just position 1 to featured snippet. How is this SEO forecast tool different from other traffic projectors?+
Most SEO forecast tools either use a flat annual growth rate (simple but inaccurate for position-specific projections) or require keyword-by-keyword data entry for portfolio models. This tool sits in between: a CTR-curve model for a keyword cluster, requiring only current position, target position, and search volume. The position interpolation is linear over the months-to-target period, then holds – which models a realistic 'ramp then plateau' pattern. The cumulative revenue output is included because total channel contribution is a more defensible number than month-12 run-rate alone.
