How much does website copywriting cost?

What the words for a five-page business site cost from 53 sellers, from a $60 Fiverr package to a $30,000 project floor, each converted to the same spec with the arithmetic beside it.

The short answer

$60 to $30,000

per five-page website, from people and companies. AI tools are priced separately below.

Freelance marketplace, middle
$215
Writing or production platform, middle
$375
Independent specialist, middle
$5,750
Agency or studio, middle
$2,050

Priced for: Copy for a five-page business website (home, about, services, one service detail page, contact), about 2,500 to 3,500 words in total, written from a briefing call, with two revision rounds, delivered as a document. No design, no build, no keyword research beyond basic on-page SEO.

Key takeaways
  • 01The answer to how much does website copywriting cost is mostly the route. Across 53 seller prices the same five pages ran from $60 to $30,000, and the middle independent specialist charges $5,750 against $215 for the middle marketplace package: about 27 times as much.
  • 02Most website copy gigs on Fiverr cannot buy five pages. Of the 38 we read, 23 have no package that reaches five pages, several sell one page at a time, and one package called 'Full Website Content' is four pages.
  • 03The gap buys discovery. The specialists' pages list kickoff calls, questionnaires, client interviews, wireframes and messaging work; the marketplace packages list words, pages and revisions. Only four offers we read name a kickoff or strategy call and two revision rounds for five or more pages, at $4,200 to $9,000.
  • 04Half the specialist figures are floors, not quotes. Joel Klettke expects at least $30,000, Big Picture Copywriting starts at $8,000, Kayla Hollatz at $6,500+ and Jill Wise at $4k for a simple site. They bound what five pages cost from each; they do not price them.
  • 05The figure most ranking pages lean on has no source. One copywriter calls about $1,000 a page the industry standard, another gives $650 to $1,000 as the average, and a third says a $1,000-a-page quote for a straightforward service business means you are probably overpaying.

Search how much does website copywriting cost and the first result gives no website copy figure at all: Elna Cain's post prices blog posts and email sequences, and still says it is 2024. The next four are a Reddit thread, two copywriters' own posts and AWAI's undated guideline, and none of the five names a source for its figures.

So this page prices one thing: the copy for a five-page business site (home, about, services, one service page and contact), about 3,000 words, from a briefing call with two revision rounds. One landing page is priced on the copywriting page, and the design and build on the websites page. Every website copywriting cost below was read at its source on 12 October 2026, in US dollars.

Most website copywriting rates are per word, per page or per hour. Per-word prices are converted at 3,000 words, the middle of the spec, page prices multiplied by five, and hourly rates converted at 22 hours: the Clever Copywriting School's 2022 worked example for a five-page site, with a second revision round. No survey measures those hours, so treat every hourly row as an estimate.

The price, by route

In-house is not sampled. It uses the salary data for writers and authors (May 2025 US national median, Bureau of Labor Statistics, $76,910 base), loaded at 1.3x and divided by 4 to 7 five-page sites a month. At 22 hours a site, the Clever Copywriting School's 2022 worked example with a second revision round, a working month of about 173 hours fits seven. The range runs from 7, a month of nothing else, down to 4, which leaves about half the month for the rest of the job. Both ends are our assumption.

How the marketplace prices were drawn: Fiverr: search 'website copywriting' (https://www.fiverr.com/search/gigs?query=website%20copywriting), default 'Relevance' sort, 858 results, read 2026-10-12 in a real Chrome window driven over the DevTools protocol (port 9933, own profile) with the cookie logged_out_currency=USD; the page and every gig report currency USD at rate 1. Took listing positions 1 to 48 in order, one gig per seller (a seller's later gigs skipped), which gave 40 sellers. Skip rule: a gig that does not sell website copy in English (2 skipped: nicaline at position 5, a German correction gig; anilahasnain1 at 26, realtor bios). For each of the 38 remaining gigs I read the package table from the gig's own page data (the source of the 'Compare packages' table) and counted the CHEAPEST package that states five or more pages (Fiverr's 'Number of pages' field, or the package description where the field is absent). Where that package states fewer than 2,500 words, it was topped up to 2,500 with the package's own word calculator; where it has no calculator it was counted as is if it states at least 2,000 words (flagged 'Match: partial'), and not counted below that. Packages under five pages are not counted even when a word calculator could add words, because the calculator adds words, not pages. 15 of 38 produced a figure. Fiverr's listing data marks 20 of the 48 positions as promoted placements ('promoted_gigs'); they are kept, because a buyer sees them, and flagged per row. Upwork Project Catalog: search 'website copywriting' (https://www.upwork.com/services/search?q=website%20copywriting), default sort, 6,222 projects, read the same day the same way. Opened positions 1 to 23; skipped by rule position 21 (Arabic and English medical blogs, no tier table) and 24 (a Shopify store build). Tier tables were read with ticks taken from the markup (aria-label 'included' / 'not included'), and each tier's description by clicking it. Counted the lowest tier of 2,500 words or more; where no tier reached 2,500, the top tier plus the listing's own 'Additional 100 Words' add-on to 2,500; where there is no word add-on, the top tier as is if it states at least 2,000 words (flagged partial). A tier described as a whole website with a page count (Ghulam M., 6 pages) counts without a word count. 16 of 22 produced a figure. Contra: three listings found by web search (Contra's search and category pages return a 404 or redirect), flagged as not a sample. All marketplace prices exclude buyer fees.

Not a criticism. Quoting per project is normal when the work varies. It does mean the ranges above describe the providers who publish, and the ones who do not are rarely the cheapest.

  • WebFX (website copywriting services) · No price. 'Typically, businesses will pay $25 to $25,000 per page when investing in copywriting services. Why one five-page site's copy costs 500 times another

Whether the writer sets the site's messaging and page plan, or fills pages you planned.

    Discovery before the first draft

Most of the gap sits here. Between The Lines' $9,000 opens with a 60-minute kickoff and strategy call, a questionnaire and optional client interviews; Kayla Hollatz's $6,500+ with a strategy call, a brand questionnaire and wireframes. The marketplace packages we read list words, pages and revisions, and are written to your brief.

The first page carries the strategy

Polly Clover charges $425 for the first page and $340 for each one after it, because the first carries the research, messaging direction and SEO strategy for the whole project. Bob Bly's 2022 schedule prices a simple home page at $1,250 to $1,500 and an optimised inner page at $750 to $950.

    Polly Clover's per-page prices
  3. 03

    Brand messaging in the bundle

Some sellers write the message before the pages and price it in. Salted Pages charges $6,300 for five pages and $7,500 with a brand voice handbook; Big Picture Copywriting's full site with a messaging deck starts at $8,000, the deck alone at $3,500. Take the messaging out before comparing a bundle with a copy-only price.

    Where the page bands fall

Studios sell page bands, and the unit price moves between them. Copywriting Union sells 3 pages for $1,800 and 6 for $4,200; CopywriterLabs up to 3 for $1,450 and up to 7 for $3,200. Both include two revision rounds at six and seven pages, so the bigger package costs $1,000 less, though only Copywriting Union names a kickoff call.

  5. 05

    Words on top of pages

On Fiverr a five-page package often caps the words and sells the rest by calculator. Seller mongiardo's five-page Premium is $360 for 1,500 words plus $120 for each 500 more, so 2,500 words cost $600; elmarakbi's is $550 for 2,000 words plus $30 per 100, which comes to $700.

    Human or AI-assisted drafting

On the writing platforms, website content writing cost is a word rate, and the drafting method sets it. Verblio charges 16 cents a word for fully human writing, $480 for 3,000 words, and 6 cents plus a $49.50 monthly platform fee for writing done with its in-house AI tools, $180 before the fee.

Building it with AI

What the machine costs, and what it does not

Five current models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google would draft these pages for $1.25 to $6.25 of compute, on our token estimate. Copy tools sell seats instead, Copy.ai from $24 a month billed yearly and Jasper from $59, and site builders such as Squarespace, Framer and Hostinger fold AI page text into their plans. The receipt prices one mid-range model, then the hours a person still spends.

What AI cannot do here
  • Sit in the briefing call and hear how you describe the business
  • Decide what the site says before any page is planned
  • Know why your customers chose you over a competitor
  • Check a claim, a price or a credential nobody has given it

Edit hours: Our editorial estimate for the briefing call, gathering what customers say, planning the pages, checking every claim, two rounds of feedback and rewriting five drafts for voice. No survey measures it; the Clever Copywriting School's 2022 worked example gives five pages 22 hours by hand with two rounds, of which the writing itself is 10, so 12 remain whoever drafts. The hourly rate is the same loaded in-house figure used for the in-house route, so the two are comparable.

Doing it yourself

What a five-page site's copy takes to do yourself

No survey measures a whole site. The EFA's 2026 chart puts business writing at 1.5 to 4.5 pages of 250 words an hour, about 2.7 to 8 hours for 3,000 words, and the Clever Copywriting School's 2022 example gives five pages 22 hours with two revision rounds. The hours below are our estimate for doing it yourself; the drafting is one task of six.

Editorial estimate

No independent survey measures this, so the hours are our editorial estimate.

At the same loaded rate as an in-house hire ($48 an hour), your 18 to 34 hours are worth $865 to $1,634.

Agency vs freelancer vs fractional vs in-house

Where the quote and the invoice come apart

Each of these is visible on a published price list, linked where it is.

01

A 'full website' that is four pages

Fiverr seller maggie_seo's 'Full Website Content' package is four pages: home, about, products or services, and contact. Seller talhabinkhalid0's '4-Page Set' at $180 is the step below an 8-page package at $350. Count the pages in the package table, not the words in its title.

maggie_seo on Fiverr
02

The table and the description disagree

Seller sikandarali0's top package describes 2,000 words for six to eight pages while its table says 1,500 words; wum125's describes five pages of up to 3,000 words while its table says 50. We read the table as binding wherever it was plausible. Ask the seller which one binds before you order.

sikandarali0 on Fiverr
03

Word add-ons that add weeks

Upwork seller Thu P.'s largest tier is 1,000 words for $100, and each extra 100 words costs $10 and adds two days. Topping it up to 2,500 words adds $150 and 30 days to a five-day delivery, so the cheapest route to a whole site can be the slowest.

Thu P. on Upwork
04

Copy priced inside the build

Jef van de Graaf says his full-site copy work for clients usually runs $7,500 to $15,000, 'which also usually includes my involvement in the site build'. A bundle like that is a website price, not a copy price, so it is shown and left out of every range here. Compare it with build quotes instead.

Jef van de Graaf's price guide
05

'$25 to $25,000' prices nothing

WebFX's service page says businesses pay '$25 to $25,000 per page' and asks you to request a quote. Kobe Digital repeats the figures as per website in one line and per page in another, and Sarah Klongerbo's 2024 post opens by quoting them. A range a thousand times wide is not a price.

WebFX service page
06

One studio, two prices for one package

Salted Pages lists its High Tide package, five pages with a brand voice handbook, at $7,500 in its package comparison and $7,300 on the package card further down the same page. Neither is counted here, but a buyer who reads one figure could be invoiced the other. Get the price in writing.

The cost of doing nothing

What not having it costs, in your numbers rather than ours

A site with no copy written for it still launches, on whatever someone wrote the week before, and only your analytics and CRM can say what that costs. The sum below gives the most those pages could be costing you, not what they are, so treat it as a ceiling.

  • Pages written in the company's own language

Copy written under deadline describes the business the way the team talks about it inside. A visitor came to check what you do, for whom, at what price and what to do next, and leaves when the page does not say.

  • Design built around a guess

When copy arrives last, it is cut to fit boxes drawn for placeholder text, or the layout is reworked and paid for twice. Several of the copywriters read for this page ask to be hired before design starts for that reason.

  • Service pages nothing can match

Service pages written without the words buyers use for their problem give search engines and AI assistants little to match against a question, so the site lives on the direct and referral visits the business already had.

Why there is no per-piece price from me

busyless runs on a retainer. A Fractional Head of Content, from $5,000 a month and month to month, owns the system: which channels we bet on, the editorial standard, customer interviews, the conversion path and the monthly report.

Production sits underneath as execution capacity, from $2,000 a month, through agents I have built or people I manage. We make as much as growth needs, so a price per piece would measure the count rather than whether it worked.

Most clients start with Discovery: two weeks and $2,500 for the diagnosis and a 90-day plan, theirs to keep either way.

FAQ

Frequently asked

  • What does a specialist's five-page website buy that a marketplace one does not?
Discovery, mostly. The specialists' pages list kickoff and strategy calls, questionnaires, client interviews, wireframes and messaging work before any page is drafted. The marketplace packages list words, pages and revision counts, and are written to your brief. On paper both are the same five pages; the specialist's price, a middle of $5,750 against $215, includes deciding what they should say.
  • Why do so few Fiverr gigs cover a five-page website?
Because they are built around single pages or word counts. Of the 38 website copy gigs we read, 23 have no package that reaches five pages: ten stop at three or four, several sell one page at a time, and the word calculators add words, not pages. Ordering one page five times is not a package any of those sellers has priced.
  • How many weeks should you allow for five-page website copy?
Three to fourteen days on Fiverr, with a median of four, and six to fifteen business days from the studios that publish a timeline. Salted Pages quotes three to five weeks, Kayla Hollatz four, and Big Picture Copywriting four to eight with brand messaging. Then add your own time for two rounds of feedback.
  • Where do the $1,000-a-page figures for website copy come from?
None of the guides we read says. Sarah Klongerbo calls about $1,000 a page the industry standard, Salted Pages gives $650 to $1,000 as the average, and NewMedia's tables cite market research without naming it. Prime Web Design cites the EFA's 2026 chart as 32¢ to $1.00 a word, which joins the low end of one row to the high end of another.
  • How much of a five-page website's copy can AI write?
The drafts, for $1.25 to $6.25 of model time on the five models we priced, on our token estimate. It cannot sit in the briefing call or decide what the site should say first. The briefing, research, checking, two rounds of feedback and rewriting take 12 to 18 hours on our estimate, which at an in-house rate brings the site to $578 to $866.
  • How do surveyed writers price five-page website copy?
If you are setting your own web copywriting rates, the survey rows are the nearest benchmark. AWAI's guideline gives $1,500 to $3,500 for a five to six-page SEO site, and Content Estate's 2021 survey of 19 writers puts 500 words of web copy at $200 to $400 for proficient writers, about $1,200 to $2,400 for 3,000 words.
  • When is a staff writer cheaper than buying five-page website copy?
Almost never for one site. A writer at the US median for writers and authors, $76,910, costs $8,332 a month once loaded for payroll and benefits. At 4 to 7 five-page sites a month that is $1,190 to $2,083 a site, before the months it takes to hire. A staff writer pays off when the site is one job among many.
  • Will busyless write the copy for a five-page website?
Yes, inside an engagement, and never priced by the site. Strategy and conversion are layers I own as a fractional Head of Content, from $5,000 a month: what the site says, which page answers which buyer and whether it worked. The pages are written through production from $2,000 a month. If you only need five pages written, the routes on this page are the way to buy them.
