Product description writing cost

Every published price we could find for 50 ecommerce product descriptions, from $5 Fiverr packages to per-word agencies and AI tools, converted to the same order with the arithmetic beside it.

The short answer

$50 to $4,800

Key takeaways
  • 01Product description writing cost runs against the usual order here: the middle marketplace price is $15 a description, $750 for 50, while the five agencies that publish a rate card sit at a middle of $500, because they price by length and 125 words is short.
  • 02Ordering fifty barely moves the price per item. Of the 44 Fiverr and Upwork sellers we counted, 26 charge less per description at their package nearest 50, by a median of 21%; 13 charge the same at every size and 5 charge more.
  • 03On Fiverr, read the delivery line, not the package name. No table we read shows more than 10 descriptions while names promise 15, 25, 50 or 100, and 9 of the 48 listings we opened carry a count conflict.
  • 04A model drafts all 50 for under a dollar on mid-range models, on our token estimate, and per-product tools charge $19 to $50. Checking each draft against its spreadsheet row is where the hours go.
  • 05The only large survey prices this as business writing, at about five times the market: the EFA's rate comes to $3,734 for 50 against a $750 marketplace middle. No survey we found treats product descriptions as a line of their own.

Search product description writing cost and the first result is one vendor's rate card, the second a 2019 Reddit thread, and two of the top five give no price at all. Google's own summary, '$2 to $97+ per description', stitches a 50-word price to a 300-word one.

So this page prices one order: 50 ecommerce descriptions of 100 to 150 words, written from your spreadsheet of product attributes, one keyword each and one round of revisions. Per-description prices are multiplied by 50 and per-word prices taken at 6,250 words, each read at its source on 12 October 2026, in US dollars.

If you write descriptions for stores, the page that ranks first for product description price is a 2018 worked example: $5 a description, for one or two sentences. The marketplace rows below are the prices you are set against; we found no US independent writer who publishes one on their own site.

The price, by route

Product description writing cost, route by route

Each bar runs from the cheapest to the most expensive published price we read for this route, normalised to the same spec. The dot is the middle price. The axis is logarithmic: each gridline is ten times the one before.

In-house is not sampled. It uses the salary data for AI Content Writer (mid-level median, $84,000 base), loaded at 1.3x and divided by 8 to 15 batches of 50 a month. Our assumption. A 173-hour month at the EFA's midpoint business-writing pace, 11.11 hours a batch, fits 15 batches, but that pace counts writing only. Doubling it for reading the spreadsheet and the revision round gives 8.

How the marketplace prices were drawn: Fiverr: search 'ecommerce product descriptions' (https://www.fiverr.com/search/gigs?query=ecommerce%20product%20descriptions), default 'Relevance' sort, 20,060 results, read 2026-10-12 in a real Chrome window over the DevTools protocol (own port and profile) with Fiverr's logged_out_currency cookie set to USD. The plain 'product description' search was tried first and returned mostly Amazon listing optimisation gigs, which the spec excludes. Took listing positions 0 to 29 in order, one gig per seller (a seller's later appearance skipped), which gave 28 sellers. Skip rule: a gig selling store editing or a designed product page rather than copy (2: ecom_mentors at position 3, shopifyboosters at 23); both are recorded as excluded rows. For each of the 26 remaining gigs every package in the 'Compare packages' table was read (values taken from the gig's package data, which is what the table renders, and checked against the visible table text) and the counted package is the one with the most descriptions, closest to 50, whose descriptions are 100 words or more; ties go to the cheapest per description. Its price per description x 50 is the counted figure (Fiverr lets a buyer order a package in quantity; where a gig sells extra descriptions as an add-on the row says what that would cost). Where a package's own text states a different count from its table, the smaller count is used, because that is the delivery a buyer could be held to, except that no table in the sample shows more than 10 under 'Product descriptions', so a package NAME promising more than 10 (15, 25, 50, 100) is read by its name and the row says so. One gig sells a word pool and is converted per word at 6,250 words. Fiverr's listing data marks 12 of the 28 sellers' positions as promoted (paid) placements, 11 of them among the 26 counted; they are kept, because a buyer sees them, and flagged per row. Upwork Project Catalog: search 'product descriptions' (https://www.upwork.com/services/search?q=product%20descriptions), default sort, read the same day the same way; positions 1 to 24 opened, 4 skipped by rule (translation services at 11, 13, 20, 21), 20 read, 2 excluded with a recorded row (an Amazon listing bundle at 15, long-form buying guides at 18), 18 counted by the same package rule. Contra: three listings found by web search, flagged as not a sample. Other packages are recorded as uncounted rows where their price per description differs from the counted one. All marketplace prices exclude buyer fees.

Not a criticism. Quoting per project is normal when the work varies. It does mean the ranges above describe the providers who publish, and the ones who do not are rarely the cheapest.

    Order size, for some sellers

Where a discount exists it is a small step. mskaymeek's price per description falls from $15 to $14 to $13.50 across three packages, teamwriters143's from $5 to $4.50, and Contentellect's word rate only from 10 to 8 cents between 50 and 110+ products. Upwork seller Geri M. adds extra descriptions at $25 each, exactly the single price.

Get A Copywriter charges $18 for 120 words and $44 for 300 at its Pro level, and Click Intelligence $11, $20 and $41 for 125, 250 and 500 words. Headline prices from different sellers often describe different lengths, so convert to the same word count before comparing.

    The writer's level

Product description writing rates on the platforms step with the writer's level. Textbroker charges 2.3, 3.2 and 9.0 cents a word for its three-, four- and five-star authors, and Get A Copywriter $18 or $39 for the same 120 words from a Pro or an Expert.

A human or an AI draft

Verblio charges 16 cents a word for human writing and 6 cents plus $49.50 a month for an AI draft a person edits, and lists product descriptions only under the human tier. Per-product AI tools work out at 38 cents to $1 a product for a batch of 50.

Building it with AI

What the machine costs, and what it does not

AI prices for this batch come in two kinds. A model's API drafts all 50 for 36 cents (Gemini 3.8 Flash) to 97 cents (Claude Sonnet 5.5, GPT-6.1 Sol) on our token estimate. Per-product tools charge $19 to $50, and Shopify includes its Sidekick assistant, formerly Shopify Magic, in every plan. The receipt prices the one per-product tool here that needs no Shopify store, then the checking.

What AI cannot do here
  • Know what the spreadsheet leaves out, such as how a fabric feels
  • Notice when a supplier's row is simply wrong
  • Answer the questions your customer service hears about each product
  • Decide which products earn a longer description and which need one line

Doing it yourself

What a batch of 50 descriptions takes to do yourself

No survey measures 50 product descriptions. The nearest is the Editorial Freelancers Association's 2026 pace for business and marketing writing, 1.5 to 4.5 pages of 250 words an hour, which puts the writing alone at about 6 to 17 hours. One vendor selling an AI module assumes 25 minutes a description, about 21 hours. The rest of the list is our estimate.

No independent survey measures this, so the hours are our editorial estimate.

01

The package name is not the order

No Fiverr table we read shows more than 10 descriptions, while package names promise 15, 25, 50 or 100. ericbarker1's names say 2x, 3x and 5x over a table that says 1 in every column, and on Upwork, Divya G.'s title says 3 while every tier's table says 5. Get the count in writing before you order.

02

SEO in the text, sold again in the table

rakib938's 10-product Basic is $25, but its table sells SEO keywords at $50 more, so the spec's version costs $75. prowriterr5's $10 package text promises SEO keywords while its table sells them as a $20 extra.

prowriterr5 on Fiverr
03

A fee on every order

Textbroker adds 50 cents per order, so 50 single-product orders carry $25 of fees on $200 of writing, 12.5% more; one order of 50 carries 50 cents. WriterAccess adds a $49 monthly fee to $312.50 of writing, and Fiverr adds 5.5% plus $3.50 to orders under $200.

Textbroker price table
04

Minimums written for longer copy

Contentellect's tiers assume 500 words a product, which would make the same 50 products $2,500, and every tier ends in 'Let's Talk'. WordAgents sells 5,000 or 10,000 words, so 6,250 means buying 10,000 for $800, and Express Writers starts at 300 words a piece. A 125-word description is a small unit for all three.

Acelerar's FAQ gives '$3-$15 per description' and then asks for a quote. NewMedia's '$25–$300+ per product' is labelled 'Based on market research' and names no source; its floor, $1,250 for 50, is above 40 of the 47 marketplace prices we counted.

Acelerar's FAQ
The cost of doing nothing

What not having it costs, in your numbers rather than ours

A product page without a description of its own costs something, but only your numbers can size it. Here is where it shows up, and a sum you can do from your returns report.

  • The same paragraph on every store

Paste the manufacturer's description and the same text sits on every other store selling that product. A search engine shows one version and filters the rest, so your page has nothing of its own to rank on and competes on price alone.

  • The question turns into a return

A shopper cannot handle the product, so size, material, compatibility and care are answered on the page or not at all. Left out, the question goes to customer service, to a competitor's page that answers it, or to a return when the parcel is not what they pictured.

  • Nothing for an assistant to match

Marketplace search and AI shopping assistants answer from the text on the product page. A title and a price give them nothing to match a question such as whether it is dishwasher safe, so the product is left out of the answer.

How I price it

Why there is no per-piece price from me

busyless runs on a retainer. A Fractional Head of Content, from $5,000 a month and month to month, owns the system: which channels we bet on, the editorial standard, customer interviews, the conversion path and the monthly report.

Production sits underneath as execution capacity, from $2,000 a month, through agents I have built or people I manage. We make as much as growth needs, so a price per piece would measure the count rather than whether it worked.

Most clients start with Discovery: two weeks and $2,500 for the diagnosis and a 90-day plan, theirs to keep either way.

FAQ

Frequently asked

  • Why do 50 product descriptions cost $50 from one seller and $4,800 from another?
The price per description is set by the seller's level, the length and what the package includes, not by the order. On one Fiverr results page, gazi04 sells five 100-word descriptions for $5 and a Fiverr Pro seller charges $480 for five of up to 500 words, with keyword research. • Do product description writers discount a large order?
Some do, by less than their package names suggest. Of the 44 Fiverr and Upwork sellers we counted, 26 cut the price per description at their package nearest 50, by a median of 21%. Upwork sellers Geri M. and Isobel M. add extra descriptions at exactly their single price, $25 and $20, and five sellers charge more per description in a bigger package that is also longer.
  • Are agencies cheaper than Fiverr for product descriptions?
At this length, often. The five agencies with a published rate card charge $250 to $625 for 50, a middle of $10 a description, because they price by length and 125 words is short; the middle marketplace package works out at $15. The ecommerce copy specialists we checked, such as Amazowl and SunTec India, publish no price at all.
  • What does a batch of product descriptions cost with an AI tool?
Under a dollar of model time for all 50 on mid-range models, on our token estimate, or $19 to $50 through a per-product tool: ShelfCopy, Describely or CopyCrab. ShelfCopy and CopyCrab need a Shopify store, and Shopify includes its Sidekick assistant in every plan. Checking each draft against its spreadsheet row is the real cost: 3.5 to 7 hours, $184 to $368 at an in-house rate.
  • How many days should 50 product descriptions take?
Most marketplace packages deliver 10 descriptions in one to ten days, with a median of three or four, so 50 means several packages or a custom order. WordAgents quotes 7 to 10 business days for larger batches, and Acelerar 1 to 2 weeks for 100 to 300 products. The writing alone, at the EFA's business pace, is about 6 to 17 hours.
  • Is per-word or per-item pricing better for product descriptions?
Per item suits a fixed length; per word suits a catalogue of mixed lengths. At 125 words, per-word agencies came out cheaper: WordAgents' 8 cents a word is $10 a description. Check the minimums first, because several per-word services are built for 300 to 500 words a piece and WordAgents sells in 5,000- and 10,000-word packages.
  • When does a staff writer beat buying product descriptions in batches?
When new products arrive every week. A mid-level AI content writer's salary, loaded, is $9,100 a month; at 8 to 15 batches of 50, that is $607 to $1,138 a batch, more than the agencies' $500 middle at any output. The hire earns the difference by knowing the products, which no spreadsheet carries.
  • Does busyless take on product description batches?
Yes, inside an engagement, not as a one-off order. Descriptions at volume are production work, bought as execution capacity from $2,000 a month under a Fractional Head of Content from $5,000 a month. If you only need one batch written, the routes on this page are the faster and cheaper way to buy it.
