How much does a website cost?

What it costs to build a business website, in three tiers from a small site to a large integrated build, with every price read on the seller's own page and the arithmetic beside it.

The short answer
Small site
$600 to $13,400
Mid-size marketing site
$2,500 to $28,000
Large or integrated site
$4,999 to $18,500

per site, one-off build, from people and companies. AI tools are priced separately below.

Priced for: A business marketing website, built once, in three sizes: a small site of up to about six pages, a marketing site of 7 to 20 pages with a CMS blog and basic SEO, and a large site of 30 pages or more or with integrations such as a CRM. You supply the copy. Ecommerce is out of scope.

Key takeaways
  • 01The answer to how much does a website cost turns on design more than pages. VOCSO sells two 10-page WordPress sites, at $990 and $2,500, and the difference is whether the homepage and inner layouts are designed for you.
  • 02The first year is the cheapest year. SiteGround's entry hosting is $2.99 a month and renews at $17.99, six times as much, and Squarespace's free domain renews at its standard rate after twelve months.
  • 03Most marketplace listings cannot be compared. Of 25 we opened on Dribbble, 8 state a page count for a site that is designed and built; the rest give no count, cover a homepage, or sell design files or development alone.
  • 04An AI builder's first year costs about $120 to $300 in plan fees. The real cost is the 10 to 20 hours, on our estimate, of rewriting, replacing images and fixing layout before the draft is a site you would send a buyer to.
  • 05Three of the top five Google results for this question are GoDaddy, Squarespace and Wix pricing their own plans, and none of the five names a source for the ranges it gives.

Most answers to how much does a website cost fold three jobs into one range. This page keeps them apart by size: a small site of up to six pages, a marketing site of 7 to 20 pages with a blog, and a large build of 30 pages or more or with integrations such as a CRM.

Every price was read on the seller's own page or listing on 12 October 2026, in US dollars. A seller's price counts toward a tier only when the package states a page count and meets that tier's spec; the rest stay in the evidence and out of every range. AI builders get their own bar, at the cost of the first year's plan.

If you build sites for clients and are setting your own web design pricing, the survey rows are the ones you are priced against. In Squarespace's survey of 1,034 web designers, run in November 2025, 52% said they charge at least $1,000 for an entry-level project.

The price, by route

How much does a website cost, route by route

Each bar runs from the cheapest to the most expensive published price we read for this route, normalised to the same spec. The dot is the middle price. The axis is logarithmic: each gridline is ten times the one before. Each tier has its own chart, because one range across them would mean nothing.

Small site

Up to about six pages, from a builder template or designed for you (Squarespace, Wix, a WordPress theme, Framer); you supply the copy and images.

In-house is not sampled. It uses the salary data for web and digital interface designers (May 2025 US national median, Bureau of Labor Statistics, $104,000 base), loaded at 1.3x and divided by 0.5 to 1 custom sites a month. Studios publish three to six weeks for a site of ten to twelve pages. An in-house designer also looks after the live site, so the range runs from one custom site every two months to one a month.

Large or integrated site

30 pages or more, or several custom templates plus integrations (CRM, gated content, multilingual or similar). Ecommerce is out of scope.

How the marketplace prices were drawn: Read 2026-10-12. (1) Dribbble Services: the four platform pages https://dribbble.com/services/search/webflow, /squarespace, /wordpress and /framer, default order (no sort control), read with Jina Reader. From each page I opened the listings whose title names a full website (design + build or website development), skipping landing-page-only, audit, migration, subscription and product/app-design listings, until about six per platform: 25 listings opened, every one recorded. Price is the listing's 'Project Cost'. (2) Contra: no usable search page (it renders client-side), so listings were found via web search (queries 'contra.com/s webflow website design development pages CMS blog price', '... squarespace website 5 pages small business', '... wordpress website design development 10 pages', plus the Framer multi-page listings surfaced by a search for Framer agency packages) and each listing page was read: 10 listings with a price (9 in USD, 1 in GBP; two sellers price a 5-page and a 10-page tier, recorded as separate samples), plus 2 that read 'Contact for pricing'. (3) Upwork: the published 'cost to hire' guides for web designers, web developers, Squarespace developers and WordPress developers, read via ScreenshotOne with ip_country_code=us (the Webflow, Wix and Framer guides return 404). (4) Builder marketplaces: Framer Experts (https://www.framer.com/experts/, default order, all 50 listings' budget floors) and Wix Marketplace (https://www.wix.com/marketplace/hire, 'Sort By Relevance', first page, 23 'Starting at' prices). No outliers were removed. Fiverr could not be sampled at all: every search, category and gig URL returned a PerimeterX 'It needs a human touch' challenge to Jina Reader (including its browser engine), to ScreenshotOne with a US IP and to local headless Chrome.

Not a criticism. Quoting per project is normal when the work varies. It does mean the ranges above describe the providers who publish, and the ones who do not are rarely the cheapest.

  • Digital Silk · No price on the web design service page; CTAs are 'Request a Quote' and 'Schedule a Free Consultation'.
  • OuterBox · No price; 'Get a Free Quote'.
  • Big Drop Inc · No price; 'Let's Talk'.
  • Webstacks · No price; 'Got a project? Let's talk'.
  • Ignite Visibility · No price; 'Contact Us - Get Started'.
  • Instrument · No pricing anywhere on the homepage or navigation.
  • Clay · No price; 'Contact' only.
  • Lounge Lizard · No price; 'Let's Talk' and 'Request a free consultation'.
  • Ramotion · No price; 'Let's talk'.
  • GoDaddy Web Design Services (product page) · Three plan cards (Standard Website '5 pages with room to grow', Premium Website 'up to 50 pages', Premium Web Store) render with no price in a ScreenshotOne US view; the CTA is a free consultation. GoDaddy's own blog quotes the service at $499+, $530+ and $640+.
  • Network Solutions website design services (web.com redirects here) · No own price; 'Speak with an expert today for a free consultation'. Quotes only a market range: 'On average, pro website design service costs can range from $500 to $5,000 or more.'
  • TechArk · Publishes a 'Tier-wise packages table' (Silver theme-based 9-16 pages, Gold custom 10-50 pages, Platinum custom 50+ pages) with no price on any tier.
  • Succeeding Small (Custom Website Design) · Custom tier reads 'Price Varies' although the template Starter Site is priced at $2,500.
  • Debuggers Studio · Page title says 'Starting at $490' and the body 'starts at only $350', but every package card (Basic, Standard, Custom) ends in 'Request for Quote'.
  • The Square Agency (Enterprise Build) · The tier with CRM and external integrations is 'Let's Talk'; the two smaller tiers are priced.

What moves the price

Why one website costs 11 times another

How much of the design is made for you, not how many pages there are.

  1. 01

How much of the design is custom

Most of the website design cost sits in the layouts, not the page count. VOCSO's two 10-page WordPress packages cost $990 with the custom homepage, inner layouts and wireframes marked as excluded, and $2,500 with them included.

    VOCSO packages
  2. 02

    Page count

Pages add less than you would expect. Praha on Contra charges $2,000 for up to five Framer pages and $3,000 for up to ten; Naveen S charges $2,500 and $3,000. Doubling the pages added between 20% and 75% across the sellers that price both.

    Praha on Contra
  3. 03

    Templated location pages

A high page count can be cheap when most pages share one template. Foxxr sells 50 pages, 20 of them service-area pages, for $4,999 and 80 pages for $7,999, while The Branx starts at $13.4k for five custom pages.

    Foxxr packages
  4. 04

    Integrations

Connecting the site to other systems is where the top tier starts. by Crawford's Squarespace builds step from $7,500 for up to seven pages to $18,500 and up for complex features and integrations; The Square Agency leaves its CRM tier at 'Let's Talk'.

  5. 05

Whether design is included at all

Some listings only build a design you already have. On Dribbble, development from your Figma file costs $1,250 for three pages at Dipa Inhouse and $8,000 for three or four at Composite Global; By Freaks on Contra starts at $4,000 to build an existing design and $7,000 with design.

    Composite Global on Dribbble

    Copy and a blog

Many packages assume you write the words. Succeeding Small adds copywriting to its $2,500 five-page site for $900 and a blog for $300; Sprout Media Lab sells blog setup as a $500 add-on to its starter site.

Building it with AI

What the machine costs, and what it does not

Most site builders now generate a first draft from a prompt, and the plans that include it cost about $120 to $300 for the first year. The receipt prices one of them, then adds the hours that turn a generated draft into a site you would send a buyer to.

What AI cannot do here
  • Decide what the site is for, and where each visitor should land
  • Write proof it has not been given: your clients, results and prices
  • Photograph your team, your premises or your work
  • Check that the form reaches a person and the enquiry gets answered

Doing it yourself

What a website takes to do yourself

No independent survey measures this. Three vendors put a first site built yourself at 10 to 40 hours (a web host), 25 to 60 (a studio) and 40 to 80 (a freelance designer), none with a method. Below is our estimate for a five-page template site with you writing the copy.

Editorial estimate

No independent survey measures this, so the hours are our editorial estimate.

At the same loaded rate as an in-house hire ($65 an hour), your 21 to 47 hours are worth $1,365 to $3,055.

  • Pick a builder and a template1 to 2 h
  • Write the copy for five pages6 to 12 h
  • Find, edit and place the images3 to 6 h
  • Build the pages and fix the mobile layout8 to 20 h
  • Connect the domain, forms and analytics1 to 3 h
  • Titles, descriptions and a last check of every page2 to 4 h

You also need

  • A builder plan and a domain
  • Photos you own or are licensed to use
  • Someone to read the copy before launch
  • Access to your domain's DNS settings

01

Hosting that renews at six times the price

SiteGround's entry WordPress plan is $2.99 a month and renews at $17.99; its next plan goes from $4.99 to $29.99. Hostinger's $2.99 builder price needs 48 months paid up front, $143.52, and renews at $10.99. Price the second year before you choose.

02

A 'was' price kept in the code

VOCSO's page shows $990, while its HTML keeps a struck-out $1,300 inside a comment no visitor sees. The same plan's hosting and custom mockup rows are styled as excluded, yet a plain-text read lists them as included. Confirm in writing what the plan contains.

03

Marketplace fees on top of the listing

Dribbble adds a platform fee at checkout, $62.50 on a $2,000 project, plus a card fee, $74.91 on a $2,500 one. The project cost on the listing is not the amount you pay.

A Dribbble listing
04

A floor with no page count

Of 9 USD-priced Contra listings we read, 6 are a 'Starting at' floor with no page count, and two more say only 'Contact for pricing'. A floor with no scope cannot be compared with a five-page package, so none of them counts toward a range here.

05

Design and development that delivers design

Musemind's $8,500 'Website Design & Development' listing on Dribbble ends in Figma files ready for someone else to build, and Sans Design's five-page WordPress listing ends with a handoff of design files. Read the final deliverable, not the title.

A monthly fee read as a site price

WebFX prices its design service 'Starting at $8,000/month', and a widely ranked roundup of packages reports the same figure as $8,000 a site. Designjoy's $4,995 and Flowout's $7,900 are monthly too, with no number of months per site.

The cost of doing nothing

What not having it costs, in your numbers rather than ours

A missing or broken site costs something, and only your numbers can say how much. Here is where it shows up, and a sum you can do with figures you can look up today.

  • Every channel ends on a page you do not own

A referral, a LinkedIn post or an AI answer sends people to check you out. With no site, the check ends on a directory listing, a profile you do not control, or a competitor that ranks for your name.

  • Clicks with nowhere to convert

Without a page built for the offer and a form that captures the enquiry, paid and outbound clicks land on a homepage or nowhere. The cost per lead rises because the capture step is missing, not because the audience is wrong.

  • A broken form fails in silence

An old site costs too. A form that stopped sending loses enquiries without an error anyone sees, and stale pages contradict what sales says while a buyer is comparing you.

How I price it

Why there is no per-piece price from me

busyless runs on a retainer. A Fractional Head of Content, from $5,000 a month and month to month, owns the system: which channels we bet on, the editorial standard, customer interviews, the conversion path and the monthly report.

Production sits underneath as execution capacity, from $2,000 a month, through agents I have built or people I manage. We make as much as growth needs, so a price per piece would measure the count rather than whether it worked.

Most clients start with Discovery: two weeks and $2,500 for the diagnosis and a 90-day plan, theirs to keep either way.

FAQ

Frequently asked

  • Why do website quotes run from hundreds of dollars to tens of thousands?
Because three different jobs share one name. Across the prices on this page, a small site ran from $600 to $13,400 and a mid-size marketing site from $2,500 to $28,000. Whether the layouts are designed for you, whether design is included at all and how many integrations the site needs move the price more than the page count does.
  • How much does it cost to build a website with an AI builder?
On the builders we read, about $120 to $300 buys the first year of a plan with AI site generation and hosting. That is the cheap part. Rewriting the generated copy, replacing images and fixing the layout takes 10 to 20 hours on our estimate, which at an in-house rate is $650 to $1,300. The total sits inside what marketplace sellers charge for five pages.
  • Is there a reliable average cost of website design for small business owners?
Not one you can stand on. GoodFirms' 2024 survey of over 100 firms gives $1,000 to $7,000 for a small business site in one sentence and $1,000 to $15,000 for a simple five to ten page site in another, and the ranking guides we read name no source or cite one that does not hold. The template band here, $600 to $13,400 from 22 prices, shows where each figure came from.
  • What does a website cost to keep running each year?
Builder plans ran from $48 to $360 for the first year on annual billing, and maintenance plans from $468 to $1,500 a year. Check the second year: WordPress.com Personal goes from $48 to $60, and SiteGround's entry hosting from $35.88 to $215.88.
  • How long does a website take to build?
As published, from days to months. Foxxr lists 10 pages in three to five business days and 80 pages in two to three months; The Branx quotes about six weeks for 10 custom pages; one solo studio quotes 10 to 12 weeks for five. Ask what the schedule assumes about when your copy and images arrive.
  • Is a $600 marketplace website good enough for a business?
For five pages on a clear brief, it can be. The scoped Dribbble listings we read ran from $600 to $1,100 for four to six pages. Check that the listing states a page count and delivers a built site rather than design files, and add Dribbble's platform and card fees to the price.
  • Does it make sense to hire a web designer instead of buying a website?
Only when the site changes every week. The US median for a web and digital interface designer is $104,000, about $11,267 a month loaded, which works out at $11,267 to $22,533 per custom site at one site every one to two months. For a single build, nearly every price on this page is lower; the hire pays off in the years after launch.
  • Does busyless build websites?
No. busyless is a fractional Head of Content: I decide what the site is for, which pages it needs and how it is measured, and brief whoever builds it. That is sold from $5,000 a month, with production from $2,000 a month for the content that goes on the site. If you only need the site built, the routes on this page are the way to buy it.
