Press release pricing

What one 500-word release costs to have written, and what it costs written and sent on a national wire, with every price read on the seller's own page and the word meter shown.

The short answer
Written release
$10 to $375
Written and sent on a wire
$30 to $799

per 500-word release, from people and companies. AI tools are priced separately below.

Priced for: One press release of 400 to 600 words, written from information you supply, with one round of revisions, priced at 500 words because the wires meter by the word. The second tier adds sending it on a commercial newswire to a US national circuit, bought from the same seller.

Key takeaways
  • 01Press release pricing has two answers, because writing and sending are sold apart. A written 500-word release ran from $10 to $375, with a marketplace median of $85. The cheapest write-and-send package whose national circuit you can check before paying was $398.
  • 02Two of the three big US wires publish no price at all, and the third prices only its smallest circuit: Business Wire's $475 starting price covers 400 words in one US local market. PR Newswire's pricing page returned a 404 three ways; the figures quoted for it trace to a 2017 report, a 2021 blog and Prezly.
  • 03The national wires meter by the word, and the meter counts the boilerplate. 24-7 Press Release's PR Newswire plan is $479 for 375 words, headline included, then $110 per 100, so a 500-word release is billed $699.
  • 04Much of what is sold as distribution never reaches a newsroom: a $29 post on the wire's own website, a $419.99 'US National' plan that means 400+ websites, and a $389 'PR Newswire' add-on that is the wire's online network, not its newsroom circuit.
  • 05Resellers quote wire names below the wire's own price. One Fiverr gig sells writing plus 'EIN Presswire Network' for $30; EIN charges $149 for distribution alone. The write-and-send range here rests on six prices, four of them Fiverr sellers' claims about a wire, which no buyer can check before paying.

Press release pricing on this page covers one 500-word release, priced twice: written, and written and sent on a national wire. Every price was read on the seller's own page on 12 October 2026, in US dollars, and converted to that length with the arithmetic shown.

So how much does a press release cost? Written, the middle price was $85 on the marketplaces and about $80 on the writing platforms. Written and sent nationally, the two packages whose circuit you can check came to $398 and $799. Most of the gap is the wire, not the words.

Search press release cost and the first result is EIN Presswire's own price list; four of the first nine are vendors pricing their own service. Of the explanatory pages in the top five, none cites a source, and $150 to $1,000 for writing recurs across guides with nothing behind it.

The price, by route

Press release pricing, route by route

Each bar runs from the cheapest to the most expensive published price we read for this route, normalised to the same spec. The dot is the middle price. The axis is logarithmic: each gridline is ten times the one before. Each tier has its own chart, because one range across them would mean nothing.

In-house is not sampled. It uses the salary data for AI Content Writer (mid-level median, $84,000 base), loaded at 1.3x and divided by 10 to 20 releases a month. The role page puts output at 8 to 20 pieces a month, format depending. A 500-word release is a short piece, so we assume 10 to 20 a month. That output is our assumption, not a survey figure: no credible source for the hours a release takes was found.

Written and sent on a wire

The same release written and sent on a commercial newswire to a US national circuit, bought together from one seller. Posting to a website network or the seller's own site does not count.

How the marketplace prices were drawn: Read 2026-10-12. (1) Fiverr: sub-category Writing & Translation > Press Releases (https://www.fiverr.com/categories/writing-translation/writing-press-releases), default "Best selling" sort, 3,200+ results, currency USD, read in a real Chrome window over the DevTools protocol with the logged_out_currency cookie set to USD (setting only the "currency" cookie left prices in EUR). Took the 48 listing positions on page one in order, which de-duplicate to 43 gigs (promoted and organic copies of the same gig counted once). Excluded by rule: non-US-language or foreign-media gigs (Chinese, German, UK sites: 4), media pitching rather than a release (2), crypto-only distribution (2), leaving 35. For each the package table was read from the gig's package data and checked against the visible "Compare packages" table, and the tier rule applied. 17 gigs gave a counted price (14 writing, 4 distributed, one seller in both); 11 are recorded as uncounted rows (distribution only, under 500 words with no add-on, or a second gig by an already counted seller); 7 more sell only website-network distribution with no writing in any package and are not recorded as rows (sairaa88, muhammahussain, hafizghafoor's second gig, asilaslan, alizaman121, murshid_graphix, localseoexpert1). (2) Upwork Project Catalog: search "press release writing" (https://www.upwork.com/services/search?q=press%20release%20writing), default sort, the 24 listings on page one, each opened in the same Chrome session (headless Chrome received a Cloudflare challenge). Excluded by rule: a German translation listing and an edit-and-format listing; one listing states no word count. 21 counted. Prices exclude Upwork client fees.

Not a criticism. Quoting per project is normal when the work varies. It does mean the ranges above describe the providers who publish, and the ones who do not are rarely the cheapest.

  • PR Newswire · The pricing URL that third-party guides cite returns "404 Page Not Found" (read 2026-10-12 via ScreenshotOne, Jina and a real Chrome session); the account sign-up form shows no prices. No per-release price is on the site.
  • GlobeNewswire (Notified) · No pricing page (/pricing returns 404); the site routes buyers to a demo request.
  • Business Wire (national and larger circuits) · Only the $475 local starting price is published; national circuits are "Get a Quote".
  • ACCESS Newswire (single release and PR Content Writing) · Publishes subscriptions only; no single-release price and no price for its "PR Content Writing" service.
  • 5WPR · Its own guide to what a release costs gives no 5WPR price; the enquiry form starts at "Under $15,000 a month".
  • UPRAISE PR · Cost article quotes market ranges ($150 to $1,000 writing) but no UPRAISE price.
  • Baden Bower · Publishes placement prices (from $495) but no press release writing or distribution price.
  • Zen Media · No prices; "Contact Us".
  • Otter PR · Writes and distributes releases inside "a customized subscription-based PR package"; no price.
  • Smith Publicity · No prices; "Contact Us".
  • Marketing Maven · No prices; "Contact Us".
  • Bospar · Lists press releases as a service; no price; "Let's Talk".
  • Media Frenzy Global · No prices on the homepage.
  • Interdependence PR · No prices; "Contact Us".
  • Digital Glue (UK) · Gives market ranges in pounds (£200-£500 for a 400-word release) but no own price.
  • Constant Content · Press release writers page has no rate card; buyers search writers who set their own prices.
  • 24-7 Press Release (writing) · Does not sell writing; refers customers to Prompt Proofing.
  • Prowly (Semrush) · Pricing page shows the AI press release feature but no visible price in the US read.
What moves the price

Why one press release costs 37 times another

Writing is the cheap part: the wire circuit, metered by the word, sets the bill.

  1. 01

    Words past the wire's base

The PR Newswire route meters early. 24-7 Press Release includes 375 words and charges $110 per 100 after that; eReleases charges $150 per 100; Send2Press's tier 1 plan adds $195 per 100 over 400. Send2Press's own national circuit includes 1,200 words, EIN Basic 700, and NewMediaWire publishes no limit.

24-7 Press Release PR Newswire plan
  2. 02

    Newsrooms or websites

Send2Press sells one release three ways: $99 for online syndication it says is not aimed at daily or trade media, $199 for its national push to AP newsrooms, and $699 for a plan it calls comparable to PR Newswire's US1. Business Wire's $475 covers one local market; national is a quote.

    Send2Press price list
  3. 03

Whether writing is in the package

Writing is often a separate line from the wire: $300 at eReleases, $199 at Send2Press, $50 to $100 at EasyPRWire, and 24-7 Press Release does not sell it at all, sending buyers to a partner. Unless a package says otherwise, a quoted press release distribution cost assumes you hand over a finished release.

    24-7 Press Release on writing
  4. 04

Writing from scratch or rewriting your draft

Send2Press charges $199 to write a release from scratch after a phone interview, $169 for two drafts rewriting one you supply and $89 for a single draft, and sells the rewrites only with distribution. A draft of your own cuts the writing to $89 there, if you are sending on its wire anyway.

    Send2Press writing service
  5. 05

    The writer's level

Get A Copywriter prices the same 600 words at $89 from a Pro writer and $194 from an Expert, more than twice as much. On the marketplaces the spread is wider: 500 words ran from $10 to $375 across 35 sellers, with a median of $85.

    Get A Copywriter rates
  6. 06

    Volume

Packs lower the unit price only if you have the news to fill them. EIN Presswire sells one release for $149, five for $499 and fifteen for $999, which is $66.60 each. PR Underground's US National falls from $419.99 to $350 a release at 30.

Building it with AI

What the machine costs, and what it does not

Seven current models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google would draft this release and revise it once for between about a fifth of a cent and 18.5 cents, on our token estimate, and EIN Presswire's generator drafts one free. The receipt prices one mid-range model, then the hours that make a release safe to send under your name.

What AI cannot do here
  • Tell you whether the news is news to anyone outside the company
  • Supply a spokesperson quote that somebody has actually approved
  • Check a name, figure or date it was never given

What a press release takes to do yourself

No survey measures how long a release takes to write. A figure of about three and a half hours circulates with no source behind it, so this list is our estimate for 500 words written from facts you already have, with one round of changes.

Editorial estimate

No independent survey measures this, so the hours are our editorial estimate.

At the same loaded rate as an in-house hire ($53 an hour), your 2 to 4 hours are worth $105 to $210.

01

The word count includes the boilerplate

24-7 Press Release's $479 PR Newswire plan counts the headline, subhead, body and boilerplate toward its 375 words. Send2Press bills '$195 for each 100 words or fraction' over 400 on its tier 1 plan, so a single word over costs a full block. Count every word, boilerplate included, before comparing wires.

02

Distribution that never reaches a newsroom

24-7's $29 Simple Post stays 'on our website only'. PR Power's $49 Silver is 'Published Only PRP Site', with national syndication crossed out. PRWeb's $120 Basic shows crosses beside its syndication network and journalist lists, and PR Underground's 'US National' means 400+ websites. Ask which newsrooms receive the release.

03

Writing left out of the entry price

eReleases' own cost guide says budget options 'start at $399 with eReleases'. Its pricing page answers 'Is writing included in the package price?' with 'No', charges $300 for it, and adds $150 per 100 words past the 400 that package allows. Add both before comparing a wire with a seller who writes and sends.

04

A circuit you cannot check

An Upwork seller explains a low price with 'I bought a bulk deal'. A Gumroad listing charges $2,000 for writing plus 'premium distribution channels' whose one named outlet, PR Log, is free to post on. Neither can be checked before you pay, so ask which wire account sends the release, and for that wire's own report.

05

Wire prices nobody can open

PR Newswire's pricing page returned a 404 on 12 October 2026, yet guides still quote it: $805 from a 2017 report, $835 from a 2021 blog, $850 from Prezly. PBJ Stories gives EIN as $99.95 where EIN's page shows $149. Ask the wire for a written quote at your word count.

Releases priced on their links

FATJOE advertises 'Mostly Follow Body Links' and Press Advantage 'Up to 1788 high value backlinks per release'. Send2Press, by contrast, marks every link in a release nofollow 'per Google guidelines'. A package sold on the links it places is a link purchase, and deserves to be judged as one.

The cost of doing nothing

What not having it costs, in your numbers rather than ours

Not sending a release costs something only when there is news worth a record. Here is where it shows up, and a sum from your own sent folder that sizes the work a release would otherwise do.

  • No single version of the facts

Without a written release there is no dated, public version of the announcement. Anyone who covers it works from a deck, a social post or memory, and names, figures and quotes drift between versions.

  • Editors never see it

Editors and trade journalists who read wire feeds and newsroom inboxes do not see news posted only on your own channels. Any coverage then depends on pitching each writer by hand.

  • The claim reads as self-reported

A prospect, investor or partner checking a claim looks for an independent record of it. When the only record is your own site, the claim reads as your word alone.

How I price it

Why there is no per-piece price from me

busyless runs on a retainer. A Fractional Head of Content, from $5,000 a month and month to month, owns the system: which channels we bet on, the editorial standard, customer interviews, the conversion path and the monthly report.

Production sits underneath as execution capacity, from $2,000 a month, through agents I have built or people I manage. We make as much as growth needs, so a price per piece would measure the count rather than whether it worked.

Most clients start with Discovery: two weeks and $2,500 for the diagnosis and a 90-day plan, theirs to keep either way.

FAQ

Frequently asked

  • Can a $30 Fiverr press release really include wire distribution?
Not one you can check before paying. Four Fiverr sellers in our sample name a wire, at $30 to $760 for writing and sending. EIN's own price for distribution alone is $149, or $66.60 each in a pack of fifteen, so $30 needs a bulk account or a different route. Ask for the wire's own report afterwards.
  • Does every press release need to go out on a wire?
No. A wire earns its price when editors who do not know you must see the news, or when an announcement has to reach everyone at once, such as results or a leadership change at a listed company. For a hire or a small launch, your own newsroom page and a few direct pitches may do, at the cost of your time.
  • What does PR Newswire charge for a press release today?
It does not say. Its pricing page returned a 404 on 12 October 2026, read three ways, and the figures in circulation are second-hand: $805 from a 2017 report, $835 from a 2021 blog, $850 from Prezly. Resellers publish what it does not: eReleases sends 500 words on its national circuit for $499, or $349 on a first order.
  • Is a free AI-drafted press release safe to send?
Not without a person. EIN Presswire's generator drafts up to 25 releases a day for free, and seven current models would draft and revise one for between about a fifth of a cent and 18.5 cents. None can approve a spokesperson's quote or check a figure it was never given. Those one to two hours, at an in-house rate, are $53 to $105.
  • How soon after approval can a press release go out?
The same day on some wires: EIN Presswire for verified accounts in business hours, Send2Press if approved by 9 a.m. Pacific. 24-7 Press Release sends the next business day and PRWeb's Basic within 48 hours. Writing takes longer: two to three working days at Send2Press, and a median of three days on both marketplaces.
  • How much do writers charge for a press release?
No independent US writer we found publishes a dollar rate for one, so the freelancer route here has no counted price. The Editorial Freelancers Association's 2026 chart has no press release row; its 'Other Writing' median, 30 cents a word, comes to $150 for 500 words. Upwork quotes $15 to $110 an hour, with no hours to multiply by. The 35 marketplace listings had a median of $85.
  • Is it worth hiring someone just to write press releases?
Rarely. A mid-level AI content writer costs about $9,100 a month once loaded for payroll and benefits; at 10 to 20 releases a month, that is $455 to $910 a release, against a marketplace median of $85. The hire pays off when releases are one part of a steady writing load, not the whole job.
  • Does busyless write or send press releases?
It does not send them: no wire distribution, no PR and no pitching to journalists. Inside a fractional engagement, from $5,000 a month with production from $2,000 a month, a release can be written when the news earns one, and whether it does is the first decision. If you only need a release written or sent, the routes on this page are the way to buy it.
