Email copywriting cost

What one five-email welcome or nurture sequence costs to buy, from $25 Fiverr packages to a $4,250 direct-response fee, with the words priced apart from the flow that sends them.

The short answer

$25 to $4,250

per five-email sequence, from people and companies. AI tools are priced separately below.

Freelance marketplace, middle
$150

Key takeaways
  • 01The email copywriting cost of one five-email sequence ran from $25 to $4,250 across the 37 seller prices we could compare. The middle marketplace package is $150 and the middle independent specialist $2,000, more than thirteen times as much for the same spec.
  • 02Only two agencies sell this unit as a fixed, copy-only package, and both are Ohio studios with near-identical offers: Copywriting Union's $900 includes two revision rounds in seven business days, CopywriterLabs' $950 one round in five. Neither lists a briefing call, so read the scope line before comparing either with a specialist who runs one.
  • 03Agencies mostly sell the build, not the words. Every agency welcome-flow price we found includes setting the flow up in the email platform, and none of the 20 packages on the first page of Clutch's email listings prices a written sequence. Only three agencies publish a price for the copy alone, and one of them prices it by the word.
  • 04Nine of the 24 Fiverr gigs we read cannot be bought as this sequence. Five cap the words below 750 in total, one of them at five emails in 150 words; one is a template; two bundle the platform build; and one stops at three emails.
  • 05Upwork publishes three figures that do not meet. Its copywriter cost guide and its hire page for email copywriters give $19 to $45 an hour, its Email Copy page says many charge $50 to $250 an hour, and the hire page's own table puts a welcome sequence at $300 to $800. At $32 an hour and the EFA's drafting pace, five emails come to about $64.

Search email copywriting cost and the first result is one writer's own rate, $400 an email, in a post whose title says 2026 and whose body still says 2024. Two of the top six price agency retainers and email software rather than writing, and of the results we read, only a 2023 Reddit thread names a source for its figures.

So this page prices one thing: a five-email welcome or nurture sequence, 150 to 300 words an email, written from a briefing call, with subject lines, preview text and two revision rounds, as a document, without the build in your email platform. It is written once and sent automatically; one landing page and an ongoing newsletter are priced on their own pages. Every price was read on 12 October 2026, in US dollars.

Per-word prices are converted at 1,125 words, five emails at 225, and per-email prices are multiplied by five. If you write sequences and are working out how much to charge for email copywriting, the survey rows are the nearest benchmark, and the specialist rows show what writers charge once they run the briefing themselves.

The price, by route

Email copywriting cost, route by route

Each bar runs from the cheapest to the most expensive published price we read for this route, normalised to the same spec. The dot is the middle price. The axis is logarithmic: each gridline is ten times the one before.

In-house is not sampled. It uses the salary data for writers and authors (May 2025 US national median, Bureau of Labor Statistics, $76,910 base), loaded at 1.3x and divided by 5 to 11 sequences a month. The count is our estimate, not a measured figure: no source times a whole sequence. At 7 to 15 hours each, briefing call, subject lines and two revision rounds included, a working month of about 173 hours holds 11 at the slow end. The range runs from 11, a month of nothing else, down to 5, which leaves over half the month for campaigns and the rest of the job.

    2026-10-12

How the marketplace prices were drawn: Conversion basis: five emails at the 225-word midpoint of the spec's 150-300 words, i.e. 1,125 words, for per-word prices; a per-email price is multiplied by five; a price for a stated range of email counts that includes five is taken as published (midpoint where it is a price range); a price for a different count is converted pro rata only when it is clearly per email, otherwise null. (1) Fiverr: search 'welcome email sequence' (https://www.fiverr.com/search/gigs?query=welcome%20email%20sequence), default 'Relevance' sort, 5,161 results, read 2026-10-12 in a real Chrome window over the DevTools protocol on its own debugging port and profile, with Fiverr's currency cookies set to USD; the listing data reports currency USD at rate 1. Took positions 1 to 38 in order and applied skip rules stated before reading any package: a gig selling platform setup or automation build rather than copy (positions 3, 4, 6, 13, 16, 19, 20, 25, 27, 30, 32, 35), a cold-outreach gig with no welcome or nurture sequence in its title (37), and a seller's second appearance (7). That left 24 gigs, all recorded; after every load the gig's URL and title were checked against the request. Packages were read from each gig's embedded package data (title, description, price, delivery, revisions, 'Emails written', 'Words included', and any word-count or extra-email add-on) and cross-checked against the Compare packages table. Counted figure: the cheapest package, or package plus that gig's own add-ons, delivering five to seven emails and at least 750 words in total where a word count is stated (five emails at the spec's 150-word floor); a package with no stated word count counts as a whole sequence; a one-email package is multiplied by five only when the gig sells no package of two or more emails, because a sequence written as one piece is a closer match than five single emails bought separately. Packages above seven emails, below 750 words with no word add-on, sold as a template, or bundling platform build and design are recorded with normalisedUsd null and what they would be. Fiverr's listing data marks 7 of the 24 kept gigs as promoted (paid) placements; they are kept and flagged, because a buyer sees them. (2) Upwork Project Catalog: search 'welcome email sequence' (https://www.upwork.com/services/search?q=welcome%20email%20sequence), default order, 1,149 projects, the first page of 24, read the same day in the same browser. Skip rules: listings selling platform setup, templates, design or automation (positions 4, 9, 11, 15, 19, 21, 22, 23), an audit (7), cold-outreach sequences (16, 18). 13 kept; each tier table and add-on list read from the project page's 'What's included', with FAQ answers read from the page state where length was ambiguous. Same counting rule. Upwork's 'Number of Words' row is used inconsistently by sellers: where it is identical on every tier while the email count rises it is read as per email, otherwise as a total, and the row says which. (3) Contra: three 'email sequence' listings found by web search, read in the same browser; not a sample. Marketplace prices exclude buyer service fees.

Not a criticism. Quoting per project is normal when the work varies. It does mean the ranges above describe the providers who publish, and the ones who do not are rarely the cheapest.

What moves the price

Why one five-email sequence costs 170 times another

Whether the price stops at the words or includes building the flow in your platform.

  1. 01

    The words inside the package

Marketplace packages cap the emails and the words, then sell the rest, so a five-email package can hold 150 words in total or 2,500. Upwork sellers charge $15 to $79 for each extra email and $20 to $30 per extra 100 words; Fiverr seller Sophia sells 250 more words for $70.

    Andra I. on Upwork
  2. 02

The words alone, or the flow built too

Agencies price the setup with the copy. Netalico charges $2,500 for 5 to 9 emails across four Klaviyo flows, plus email capture, and Digismoothie $1,450 for three flows set up. For the words alone, five emails cost $900 at Copywriting Union and $950 at CopywriterLabs, with the loading left to you.

    Netalico email pricing
  3. 03

A nurture email or a sales email

AWAI's guide suggests $50 to $200 for a regular e-letter and $250 to $2,000 for a standalone sales email. Bob Bly's July 2022 schedule charges $750 to $950 for one short email that sends the reader to a landing page or cart, $4,250 for five at the midpoint. The same five emails cost several times more when each one has to sell.

    AWAI pricing guide
  4. 04

    Who runs the briefing

The call and the research are what specialists charge for. Elna Cain moved from $200 to $400 an email and scopes each sequence on a Zoom call and a proposal; Mighty Fine Copy's $997 includes customer analysis, a video walkthrough and a follow-up call. On Upwork, Rachel C. names a kick-off call, and her route to five emails costs $230.

    Elna Cain's rates post
  5. 05

    Revision rounds

Marketplace packages often promise unlimited revisions: Fiverr packages at $30, $50 and $55 do. The studios count them. Copywriting Union includes two rounds at $900 and CopywriterLabs one at $950, with no price for a second, and Upwork sellers charge $10 (Oyku V.) to $50 (Muhammad A.) for each revision beyond the tier.

    CopywriterLabs packages
  6. 06

    Rush delivery

Speed is sold as an extra. Fiverr seller Paul charges $55 to $125 for extra-fast delivery, and Upwork's fast-delivery add-ons run from $20 to $80 (Rachel C.) up to $100 to $150 (Andra I.).

Building it with AI

What the machine costs, and what it does not

Nine current models from Anthropic, OpenAI and Google would draft this sequence from a briefing-call transcript for about a cent and a half to $1.35 of compute, on our token estimate. Klaviyo's Composer, $20 a month, writes and builds a flow inside Klaviyo, the platform step this spec leaves out. The receipt prices one mid-range model, then the hours a person still spends.

What AI cannot do here
  • Run the briefing call, or know why people signed up
  • Know which objection stops a new subscriber from buying or replying
  • Check that every offer, link and discount in the sequence is still live
  • Decide what the sequence is for: a first purchase, a reply or a booked call

Edit hours: Our editorial estimate for running the briefing call, turning it into a brief, checking every claim, link and offer, rewriting all five emails for voice and taking two rounds of feedback. No survey measures it; the EFA's 2026 pace gives the drafting alone one to three hours. The hourly rate is the same loaded in-house figure used for the in-house route, so the two are comparable.

What a five-email sequence takes to do yourself

No survey times a whole sequence. The EFA's 2026 rate chart puts business and marketing writing at 1.5 to 4.5 pages of 250 words an hour, 1.0 to 3.0 hours for 1,125 words, and Upwork's hire page says a short onboarding series often takes three to five business days, which is elapsed time. The other rows are our estimate, and the draft is one task of seven.

Editorial estimate

No independent survey measures this, so the hours are our editorial estimate.

At the same loaded rate as an in-house hire ($48 an hour), your 7 to 15 hours are worth $336 to $721.

Five emails, one short paragraph each

The package says sequence and the word cap says otherwise. On Fiverr, Alizeh sells five emails in 150 words in total for $30, Ahmad Anis five in 250 for $40, and B.hammal six in 600 for $20. Check the words included, not only the email count, before comparing a gig with anything else here.

02

One field, three meanings

Upwork's 'Number of Words' row means different things on different listings. Jonesha S. shows 200 on tiers of 3, 5 and 10 emails, so it reads as per email; Nauman R. shows 200, 600 and 1,000 for 1, 3 and 5 emails, a total; Adisa A.'s 100, 200 and 500 for 5, 7 and 9 emails cannot be read either way.

A build price with a monthly tail

WebFX prices a five-part drip at $2,250 up front, covering five emails of up to 200 words, template design, coding and tracking setup, then from $500 a month. Beside a copy-only quote it looks like the same product at more than twice the price, with a bill that keeps coming.

04

One vendor, two prices

Express Writers' pricing guide, dated 17 July 2026, says email writing there costs '$475+ for a 5-email sequence'. Its own shop charges $0.30 a word with a 300-word minimum per order: $337.50 for 1,125 words as one order, $450 as five. We counted the shop price, because that is what checkout charges.

Templates sold as sequences

A Gumroad listing sells a pre-written five-email Klaviyo welcome series for $199, 'increasing from $199 to $600 after the first 50 customers (Less than 10 spots left)'. A Fiverr Pro gig's five-email welcome package is described as a 'Complete Welcome sequence template', delivered in 24 hours. Neither is written for your business.

The cost of doing nothing

What not having it costs, in your numbers rather than ours

A missing sequence never appears on an invoice. It shows up in what happens to people in their first weeks on the list, and only your email platform and ad reports can size it. Here is where it shows up, and a sum to do with those reports.

  • The moment after sign-up passes

A new subscriber is paying the most attention in the hours after signing up. Without a sequence, the next thing they receive is whatever broadcast goes out next, written for the whole list rather than for someone who has just arrived.

  • A sender nobody remembers

If the lead-magnet delivery is the only email for weeks, the first campaign arrives from a name the subscriber may not recognise. That pushes them toward unsubscribing or reporting it as spam, and mailbox providers weigh those signals for every later send.

  • An address bought, not a customer

Ads, events and content buy an email address, not a customer. With nothing written to move that address toward a first purchase or a first reply, the acquisition spend is made and the step that would earn it back is left to chance.

How I price it

Why there is no per-piece price from me

busyless runs on a retainer. A Fractional Head of Content, from $5,000 a month and month to month, owns the system: which channels we bet on, the editorial standard, customer interviews, the conversion path and the monthly report.

Production sits underneath as execution capacity, from $2,000 a month, through agents I have built or people I manage. We make as much as growth needs, so a price per piece would measure the count rather than whether it worked.

Most clients start with Discovery: two weeks and $2,500 for the diagnosis and a 90-day plan, theirs to keep either way.

FAQ

Frequently asked

  • Where does the money go in a $2,000 email sequence?
Mostly into work done before the writing. At the EFA's 2026 pace, drafting 1,125 words takes one to three hours. Elna Cain's $400 an email, $2,000 for five, comes with scoping on a Zoom call and a proposal; Mighty Fine Copy's $997 adds customer analysis, a video walkthrough and a follow-up call. The $25 route on Fiverr is five single emails at $5, written to whatever brief you send.
  • What should you check before ordering an email sequence on Fiverr?
Four lines of the package table. The words included, because five emails can mean 150 words in total; whether it is written for you or a template; whether it bundles setting up the flow; and the email count, because one gig we read stops at three. Nine of the 24 Fiverr gigs we read failed one of those checks. Buyer service fees come on top of every marketplace price here.
  • Why do agency prices for an email sequence usually include the build?
Because most of the agencies we found sell running email, not writing it. Netalico's $2,500 covers four Klaviyo flows and email capture, Digismoothie's $1,450 three flows set up, and WebFX's $2,250 template design, coding and tracking, then from $500 a month. If someone on your team can build the flow, the two copy-only studios charge $900 and $950 for five emails.
  • Does Klaviyo's AI agent replace a copywriter for an email sequence?
It replaces the build more than the brief. Composer, $20 a month on top of a Klaviyo plan, writes and builds flows from a prompt, and nine current models would draft the five emails for $1.35 or less on our token estimate. None runs the briefing call or checks the offer; with the four to eight hours that takes, priced at an in-house rate, the receipt above comes to $193 to $385.
  • What turnaround do sellers publish for an email sequence?
Three days to three weeks for the writing. Upwork seller Timothy O. and Mighty Fine Copy quote three days, CopywriterLabs five business days, Copywriting Union seven, Fabulous Copy two days a message, ten for five, and Steve Maurer two to three weeks. Your own review rounds come on top. Litmus's 2018 figure of two weeks to produce one email is elapsed time, not hours worked.
  • What do rate surveys suggest charging for an email sequence?
They disagree. AWAI's undated guide suggests $50 to $200 a regular e-letter, $625 for five at the midpoint; the EFA's 2026 chart, 32.0 to 87.5 cents a word for business writing, gives $360 to $984 at 1,125 words; Upwork's table prices a three-to-five-email welcome sequence at $300 to $800, naming no source. Read these email copywriting rates as what writers report or are advised to charge.
  • Is a full-time writer worth hiring for email sequences alone?
Rarely. Loaded for payroll and benefits, the US median salary for writers and authors, $76,910, comes to $8,332 a month: $757 to $1,666 a sequence at 5 to 11 a month. Unless you launch new sequences every week, the hire pays off only when the same person also writes the campaigns, the newsletter and the pages those emails point to.
  • Does busyless sell a five-email sequence on its own?
No, and there is no per-sequence price. Newsletter and owned audience is one of the channels busyless runs: from $5,000 a month I lead the work, including what new subscribers hear and whether it works, and production from $2,000 a month writes each sequence and loads it into your platform, through agents or people. If you only need one sequence, the routes on this page are the way to buy it.
