Cost of creating an ebook

What a gated B2B ebook of 7,500 words costs, written alone or written and designed, from Fiverr gigs to independent writers, with every price read on the seller's own page and the sum beside it.

The short answer
Written ebook
$80 to $5,063
Written and designed
$150 to $1,500

per 7,500-word ebook, from people and companies. AI tools are priced separately below.

Priced for: A gated B2B marketing ebook, a lead magnet rather than a book for sale: 5,000 to 10,000 words written from your material and public research, with an outline, a draft and two rounds of edits. Priced at 7,500 words, alone and laid out as a branded PDF of about 22 designed pages.

Key takeaways
  • 01The cost of creating an ebook is two purchases, not one. Almost every seller offers either the words or the designed pages: only seven prices we read cover both at 5,000 words or more, five marketplace gigs and two AI tools, and no platform, agency or independent writer publishes one that meets the spec in US dollars.
  • 02On Fiverr, 'ebook' means a book. Its ebook category is memoir, fiction and Kindle ghostwriting from the first listing, and the B2B gigs mostly package 15,000 words for $150 to $250, or sell extra words on a smaller package for less, priced like book mills rather than researched guides.
  • 03A marketplace price says little about the work behind it. Two Fiverr sellers publish word-for-word identical packages, at $800 and $200 for 5,000 words; the dearer one lists two revisions and the cheaper one none.
  • 04The Editorial Freelancers Association's 2026 median range for business and marketing writing comes to $2,400 to $6,562.50 for 7,500 words. Its midpoint is about 22 times the marketplace middle of $200, and close to the one independent writer who publishes an ebook rate.
  • 05Independent writers and agencies barely publish an ebook price. One writer and two agencies publish a US-dollar price that reaches 5,000 words; twenty other providers we checked, among them the best-known B2B content agencies, publish no ebook price at all.

Search ebook cost and the top five US results price a book for readers: a Reddit thread on pricing a fantasy novel, a library price tracker, an author's pricing guide, an ebook store and a retail pricing post. Not one page in the top 20 prices the ebook a business gives away for an email address, which is the one priced here.

So this page prices one thing: a gated B2B ebook of 7,500 words, written from your material and public research, with an outline and two rounds of edits. The cost of creating an ebook is shown twice, as the words alone and as the words laid out in a branded PDF of about 22 pages, because the two are nearly always bought from different people.

Every price was read on the seller's own page or listing on 12 October 2026, in US dollars. A package counts at the cheapest published way that seller reaches 7,500 words, never scaled; where nothing reaches it, the largest package of 5,000 words or more counts and its row says so. Revisions are noted but not priced, which slightly flatters packages with fewer than two rounds.

The price, by route

Cost of creating an ebook, route by route

Each bar runs from the cheapest to the most expensive published price we read for this route, normalised to the same spec. The dot is the middle price. The axis is logarithmic: each gridline is ten times the one before. Each tier has its own chart, because one range across them would mean nothing.

In-house is not sampled. It uses the salary data for AI Content Writer (mid-level median, $84,000 base), loaded at 1.3x and divided by 1 to 2 ebooks a month. The EFA's pace for business and marketing writing, 1.5 to 4.5 pages of 250 words an hour, puts the draft alone at about 7 to 20 hours. One or two a month is our assumption: research, interviews, two rounds of edits and the writer's other work take the rest of the month.

How the marketplace prices were drawn: Read 2026-10-12 in a real Chrome window opened off-screen and driven over the DevTools protocol (Fiverr blocks Jina, ScreenshotOne and headless Chrome), with Fiverr's currency cookie set to USD. (1) Fiverr writing: search https://www.fiverr.com/search/gigs?query=b2b%20ebook%20writing at the default sort 'Relevance', first 25 positions in listing order. Skip rule, stated before opening: a gig whose title sells fiction, memoir, a KDP or Kindle book, recipes, a course, general articles, landing pages, formatting only, or design only. That skipped 9 (positions 3, 11, 12, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22, 24). Three opened gigs were then excluded because their packages are not an ebook (position 4 elizabeth_bukyy: Social Media Copywriting, generic 'ghostwriting' by word count; position 10 ajohhny: up to eight mixed pieces; position 19 mich_p1: course content). 13 kept, 3 of them null for being under 5,000 words. Fiverr's own Book & eBook Writing category (best selling) was read first and is book ghostwriting from position 1. (2) Fiverr writing-and-design: search 'lead magnet ebook writing' (Relevance) adding every gig whose title sells writing, or writing plus design, not already opened (positions 1, 3, 7, 12, 13, 14, 16; position 4 skipped as cookbooks), and 'write and design ebook' (Relevance) adding positions 9, 11, 12 and 13 (the others are cookbooks, KDP, brochures, travel, relationship advice or design only). (3) Fiverr design only, for reference and never counted: 8 design gigs from the 'lead magnet ebook design' results (positions 1, 2 and 5) and the 'lead magnet ebook writing' results (positions 2, 5, 8, 19 and 24). (4) Upwork Project Catalog: https://www.upwork.com/services/search?q=ebook%20writing, default order, first 24 results; skipped by title 12 (positions 1, 3, 7, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 19, 20, 22, 24: sellable or bestselling book, children's, fiction, novel, history, self-help, outline only, cover or formatting only); 12 opened. Plus 'lead magnet ebook' positions 5, 6, 9, 13, 14 and 18, and 'ebook writing and design' positions 8, 14, 16, 17 and 21 (position 17 excluded: book ghostwriting whose tiers sell no design). Prices exclude Upwork's client fees. (5) Contra: one listing found by web search (Contra has no server-rendered search). Package rule, same for every route: the reference length is 7,500 words (the midpoint of 5,000 to 10,000) and, for the designed tier, 22 designed pages (the midpoint of 15 to 30, rounded down). Rates per word, page or hour are multiplied out to that length. A package counts at the cheapest published way to get at least 7,500 words from that seller, using only that seller's own packages and add-ons; an over-length package counts when it is the cheapest route. Where no option reaches 7,500 words but a package sits at 5,000 words or more, the largest such package counts as published and the row says so. Packages are never scaled. Below 5,000 words with no extra-words add-on: null. The designed tier also needs the package itself to sell design (formatting or a cover alone does not count). One counted price per seller per tier; revisions are noted, not priced.

What moves the price

Why one ebook costs 63 times another

Whether one seller writes and designs it, or you buy words and pages separately.

  1. 01

    Length

Doubling the words does not double the price. ContentPit sells 5,000 words for $299 and 10,000 for $569; ukwriter101 on Fiverr sells the same two lengths for $2,500 and $4,000. The second 5,000 words added 90% at one and 60% at the other.

    ContentPit ebook packages
  2. 02

Which writer a platform gives you

On a platform where you hand-pick the writer, the writer is the price. WriterAccess's Pro tier lists rates from 4 cents to over a dollar a word, so the same 7,500 words run from $300 to more than $7,500 before its $79 monthly fee.

    WriterAccess pricing
  3. 03

    Design, priced by the page

The ebook design cost is usually a separate purchase, priced by the page. designbydaniela charges $100, $170 and $250 for 5, 10 and 20 designed pages; viktoriadigital charges $180, $320 and $480 for 5, 10 and 15. Neither says how many words a page holds.

    designbydaniela on Fiverr
  4. 04

    Who designs it

For the same 22 designed pages, one Fiverr search returned $70 from cebooker, $270 from designbydaniela and $1,350 from designerheather, a spread of nearly twenty times for a layout of the same length.

    designerheather on Fiverr
  5. 05

    Rounds of revisions

The spec includes two rounds of edits, and an extra round is priced very differently: $250 at ukwriter101, $75 at holly_michael and $15 at mongiardo. Several cheap gigs list none, and the bands count packages as published, which slightly flatters those with fewer rounds.

    ukwriter101 on Fiverr
  6. 06

    Research and expert interviews

Uplift Content names length, topic complexity, research and interviews with a subject matter expert as what moves its rate, and quotes longer ebooks individually. On Fiverr, jmk111 charges $195 extra for a technical topic.

What the machine costs, and what it does not

Ten current models would draft 7,500 words for between six cents and $5.60 of compute, on our token estimate, and two ebook tools that write and lay out a PDF cost $9.99 and $29 for a month. The receipt prices one model and one layout tool, then adds the hours neither covers: checking every claim, rewriting in your voice and fixing the layout.

Edit hours: Our editorial estimate for checking every claim in 7,500 generated words against a source, rewriting them in your voice and fixing the template's layout. No survey measures it. For scale, the EFA's pace for writing business copy from scratch puts the same length at about 7 to 20 hours. Doing it yourself

What an ebook takes to do yourself

No survey measures the hours behind a B2B ebook. The Editorial Freelancers Association's 2026 rate chart puts business and marketing writing at 1.5 to 4.5 pages of 250 words an hour, about 7 to 20 hours for 7,500 words, and ebook layout at 7.5 to 22.5 pages an hour. A designer quoted on Stellar's blog puts a complete design at about five hours. The rest is our estimate.

Editorial estimate

No independent survey measures this, so the hours are our editorial estimate.

At the same loaded rate as an in-house hire ($53 an hour), your 15 to 37 hours are worth $788 to $1,943.

01

'Ebook' on a marketplace means a Kindle book

Fiverr's Book & eBook Writing category, sorted by best selling, is memoir, fiction and Kindle ghostwriting from the first listing. The B2B gigs mostly package 15,000 words for $150 to $250, or add words to a smaller package for less. Ask whether the seller writes guides for businesses or books for readers.

Fiverr's Book & eBook Writing category
02

Identical packages, four times the price

holly_michael and katiejosephtdf publish word-for-word identical package text. The 3,500-word package is $450 from one and $100 from the other; the 5,000-word package is $800 and $200. The dearer one lists two revisions and the cheaper one none, so compare what is listed, not the price.

'Lead magnet' gigs stop at 3,000 words

The gigs named for this job top out early: marc_writer and georgiaeaustin at 3,000 words, nimrafayyaz100 at 2,700. Searching for the right name buys less than half the 7,500 words priced here, at $525 and $600 for the first two.

marc_writer on Fiverr
04

Formatting and a cover are not a design

zaavich, george_thom5 and andy26__ tick 'eBook formatting' and 'Book cover'. Those boxes describe Kindle-style formatting and a cover image, not a branded PDF laid out page by page, so none of them counts as designed here.

zaavich on Fiverr
05

A 'from' price for less than the spec

Uplift Content's 'Our ebooks start at $2,000' covers 3,000 words, and longer ones are quoted. Angela Rodgers' business eBook is about 2,000 to 3,000 words. Ask what length the starting price buys before comparing it with a 7,500-word quote.

06

A sponsored 'custom ebook' is a media buy

Automation.com's custom ebook starts at $17,000, is capped at 4,000 words, and includes promotion to its subscribers and the leads. Its writing-only white paper starts at $4,500. Compare the first with an ad budget, not with a writing price.

The cost of doing nothing

What not having it costs, in your numbers rather than ours

Going without a gated ebook has a price, but only your numbers can size it. Here is where it shows up, and a sum you can do from your own analytics.

  • Researchers leave anonymous

Most B2B visitors are researching, not ready to talk to sales. With nothing worth an email address, they read and leave, and no list forms of the people who will be buying next quarter.

  • The champion retells it from memory

B2B purchases are decided by several people. An ebook is something a champion can forward; without it they retell the argument in their own words, and the parts that persuade a committee are the parts that get lost.

  • Every short piece starts from scratch

An ebook is the long argument that posts, emails and sales slides are cut from. Without one, each short piece is written from nothing, and over a year they drift apart in what they claim.

Work it out

Monthly visitors to pages about the problem you solve × sign-up rate of a form you already run × share of sign-ups that reach a sales conversation

Monthly visitors to pages about the problem
Your analytics, filtered to the posts and pages that describe the problem rather than the product
Sign-up rate of a form you already run
A newsletter or webinar form's conversion rate, as a stand-in until a gated asset exists
Share of sign-ups that reach a sales conversation
Your CRM: contacts from that form who later booked a call
How I price it

Why there is no per-piece price from me

busyless runs on a retainer. A Fractional Head of Content, from $5,000 a month and month to month, owns the system: which channels we bet on, the editorial standard, customer interviews, the conversion path and the monthly report.

Production sits underneath as execution capacity, from $2,000 a month, through agents I have built or people I manage. We make as much as growth needs, so a price per piece would measure the count rather than whether it worked.

Most clients start with Discovery: two weeks and $2,500 for the diagnosis and a 90-day plan, theirs to keep either way.

FAQ

Frequently asked

  • Why does one ebook quote come in at $80 and another at over $5,000?
Because one name covers different work. Across the written-ebook prices on this page, 7,500 words ran from $80 on Upwork to $5,062.50 from an independent B2B writer. Whether the seller writes Kindle books or business guides, how much research and interviewing goes in, and how many rounds of edits are included move the price more than length does.
  • How much does it cost to make an ebook that is written and designed?
Where one seller does both, the five marketplace prices we could count ran from $150 to $1,500 for 5,000 words or more, laid out as a PDF. No platform, agency or independent writer publishes one in US dollars. Bought separately, design for 22 pages ran from $70 to $1,350 in one Fiverr search, on top of the writing.
  • Is a $200 Fiverr ebook good enough for lead generation?
For a topic you could brief in a paragraph, sometimes. $200 is the marketplace middle for 7,500 words, and many gigs at that price sell 15,000 words, priced like book mills. That buys fluent text, not research into your market. Check that the seller writes business guides, count the revisions listed, and budget your own time to brief and check it.
  • Can AI write a B2B ebook for less than a writer?
The draft, yes: six cents to $5.60 of model time on our token estimate, and ebook tools that write and lay out a PDF charge $9.99 to $29 for a month. The cost moves to the 8 to 16 hours, on our estimate, of checking claims, rewriting in your voice and fixing the layout, which at an in-house rate is $420 to $840.
  • How long should a B2B ebook take to write and deliver?
The EFA's pace puts the writing alone at about 7 to 20 hours for 7,500 words. Paid turnaround is longer because work queues: ContentPit publishes six to nine business days for 10,000 words, Express Writers six business days for most orders, Bough Digital three to five weeks, and the marketplace sellers we read 10 to 21 days.
  • Why do surveyed writers charge so much more for an ebook than Fiverr sellers?
They are different populations. EFA members report a median range of 32 to 87.5 cents a word for business and marketing writing, $2,400 to $6,562.50 for this length. Paul Maplesden, the one independent writer publishing an ebook rate, comes to $5,062.50, though his ebook page carries no year. Upwork's own guide puts ebook writers at $17 to $35 an hour; at the EFA's pace that is about $347, an estimate mixing two populations.
  • Is an in-house writer cheaper than buying ebooks one at a time?
Rarely, if ebooks are all they write. A mid-level AI content writer, loaded for payroll and benefits, costs $9,100 a month, so one or two ebooks a month come to $4,550 to $9,100 each, above almost every price here. The hire pays off when the same person also writes the posts, emails and pages the ebook is cut into.
  • Does busyless sell ebooks by the piece?
No. I lead the content as a fractional Head of Content from $5,000 a month, and production, an ebook included where one is the right bet, runs from $2,000 a month through agents or people I manage. The layout goes to a designer I brief. If you only need one ebook, the routes on this page are the way to buy it.
