Best for a self-serve AI visibility API

Otterly.AI is an Austrian tool for tracking brand mentions and website citations in AI answers. It runs your prompts daily across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, with Google AI Mode, Gemini and Claude as paid add-ons, and pairs that with a GEO audit that checks whether AI crawlers can reach and read a page. The product launched in October 2024.

Its API is sold as an allowance rather than a meter. Lite at $29 a month has none. Standard at $189 includes 2,000 REST requests a month and Premium at $489 includes 5,000, and extra requests are not for sale. The seven-day free trial needs no card and still includes 1,000 API calls, so the integration can be built before any money moves.

What the API returns is not exclusive to it. Raw AI responses, citations and prompt tables already export as CSV or JSON on every plan, Lite included. The API buys scheduling and scale: pulling stats, citations and full responses into a dashboard on a timer, running GEO audits in bulk and managing prompts from code. Price it as automation, not as access to extra data.

Our scorecard

Our editorial read across six dimensions, scored 1 to 5. This is our own assessment, not an aggregate of user reviews, and it is deliberately kept out of the page's structured data.

  • Data coverage3/5

Full responses, citations and GEO audits, but only four engines before add-ons, and Claude is read through its API.

  • Pricing4/5

A self-serve API at $189 with the allowance printed, a trial that includes calls, and engine add-ons that get expensive.

  • Documentation4/5

Reference pages generated from a public OpenAPI spec, plus help articles that answer quota questions directly.

  • Ease of integration4/5

Bearer key, GET requests and list-based responses. The OAuth-only MCP server is awkward for scheduled jobs.

  • Reliability4/5

A published rate limit and an account endpoint that reports remaining requests. No uptime commitment is published.

  • Support4/5

Group onboarding on Lite and Standard, personal onboarding on Premium, a customer success manager on Enterprise.

What you can pull

Brand report stats (GET /v1/reports/brand/{reportId}/stats)

Standard and above

Coverage, mentions, rank and a positive, neutral and negative sentiment split for your brand and detected competitors, for one date window and one country

AI responses (.../prompts/{promptId}/ai-responses)

Also a CSV or JSON export on Lite

Every run per engine: the response text, brand mentions, citations, ads, shopping results and the web search queries behind the answer

Citations (/citations, /stats, /history, /prompts)

Per request, list-based

Cited URLs with domain category and whether your brand or a competitor is mentioned, share of citations, and the history and prompts behind any one URL

GEO audits (/v1/audits/...)

Read-and-write key; audit quota applies

Robots.txt and server access per AI bot, AI readiness and structural scores for a URL, and the expanded queries an engine runs for a prompt

Prompts and tags (/v1/workspaces/{id}/prompts)

Read-and-write key

List, create, tag and delete monitored prompts; up to five are created at once and larger batches are accepted as a background job

Agent analytics (.../agent-analytics/*)

Needs a logs connector

AI crawler and agent visits to your own domains, per page and per bot, with a category saying whether the agent was fetching, indexing or training

Recommendations and account info

Standard and above

Suggested actions by engine and country, and your plan, period end and used against allowed prompts, audits, API requests and MCP calls

MCP server (data.otterly.ai/mcp)

2,000 or 5,000 calls a month

The same endpoints as assistant tools over streamable HTTP, signed in through OAuth only, since API keys are refused

Who Otterly.AI is for

Small teams and agencies that want AI visibility reporting at a published price, and developers who want to build the integration before a purchase order exists. The no-card trial with API and MCP calls included suits that order of work, and because requests are list-based, a weekly dashboard refresh across a handful of reports fits inside the Standard allowance.

Teams that need every engine should do the add-on arithmetic first. Gemini, AI Mode and Claude are extras whose price rises with the plan, and adding all three to Premium costs more than Premium itself. Anyone polling hourly across many reports will also meet the monthly cap, which cannot be topped up.

Strengths and limits

What it does well

  • The free trial needs no card and includes 1,000 API calls and 1,000 MCP calls, so an integration can be proven against real data before paying.
  • API access can be bought with a card at $189 a month, and the request allowance is printed on the pricing page rather than quoted by sales.
  • Raw AI responses export as CSV or JSON on every plan, including Lite, so occasional pulls need no API at all.
  • Requests are list-based, so one call returns a report's whole prompt set instead of costing one request per prompt.
  • A published rate limit of 2,000 requests per rolling five minutes, and an account endpoint that reports used and remaining requests.
  • GEO audits can be triggered through the API, which is how to check many pages at once; the interface audits one URL at a time.
  • The reference docs are generated from a public OpenAPI spec, so they match the deployed API.

Where it falls short

  • No API or MCP on Lite, and extra API requests cannot be bought: past the allowance, the only route is a bigger plan.
  • Four engines come with a plan; Gemini, AI Mode and Claude are add-ons, and Claude on Premium alone is $439 a month.
  • Sign-in to the MCP server is OAuth only, so an unattended job cannot point an API key at it.
  • Claude is the one engine Otterly says it tracks through the model's API, so those answers may not match the Claude app a person uses.
  • Otterly's pages disagree on details: the trial is seven days in the help centre but 14 on the MCP page, and countries are 50+ on pricing but 65+ in the help centre.
  • Standard can add at most 300 extra prompts before Otterly moves the account to Premium.
  • Automatic competitor detection can misfire; one tester had to replace the suggested competitor set by hand.

Otterly.AI pricing

Four tiers, priced by tracked prompts. Lite is $29 a month for 15 prompts, Standard $189 for 100 and Premium $489 for 400, with Enterprise quoted from $1,000, and a yearly contract cuts 15%. The page swaps the currency symbol by location, so a European visitor sees the same figures in euros, while the page's own markup states them in US dollars.

The API arrives with Standard, so the jump from $29 to $189 is the real entry price for programmatic access. Standard carries 2,000 REST requests and 2,000 MCP calls a month; Premium carries 5,000 of each. Neither can be topped up, and a Standard account that adds more than 300 extra prompts is moved to Premium anyway.

Engines are where a quote grows. The base four are ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot. AI Mode and Gemini cost $9, $59 or $149 a month each, and Claude $29, $109 or $439, depending on the plan. Adding all three to Premium comes to $737 a month, more than the plan itself.

Use the trial before any of that. Seven days, no card, 50 prompts and 1,000 API calls is enough to build a reporting job against live data and measure how many requests one refresh really consumes.

Third-party reviews

Scores read from each source on 2026-09-13. We report them as-is and publish no rating of our own.

OMR Reviews scores the Otterly.AI platform, not its API. Seven of the 15 reviews on the listing's first page carry OMR's label for reviewers invited by OMR or the vendor and given an incentive, and the profile is managed by Otterly. Capterra shows no reviews and G2 could not be read.

What practitioners say on Reddit

MixedOur read of public threads, not a review score.

Practitioners who have used Otterly treat it as a monitoring layer worth its price rather than a measurement of record. The recurring advice is to use it for direction and for alerts when a brand drops out of answers, and to stop short of presenting it to clients as rank tracking.

The concrete complaints concern setup. One tester found the automatic competitor list filled with unrelated manufacturers and rebuilt it by hand, while another, testing both tools in 2025, noted Otterly's trial allowed twice the prompts Peec's did. Two critical posts, one calling the product a sham, each drew replies selling a rival tool, so neither is quoted here.

The bluntest early comparison in r/SEO, that Otterly covered only ChatGPT and Perplexity with less accurate data, was posted in February 2025 by the account of Peec AI's chief product officer. Otterly's engine list has since grown to seven.

  • Otterly is decent for directional insight but I wouldn't treat it like rank tracking yet.
    r/seogrowth on Reddit
  • Otterly analysed my SEO tool and returned seven medical device manufacturers as my closest competitors, then ranked me first among them. I replaced them by hand.
    r/SEO_tools_reviews on Reddit
  • For Otterly I can track 50 prompts in the trial version, whereas in Peec ai I can track only 25 in the trial version.

Verdict

Otterly lets you build against its API before paying, and that shapes the whole decision. The trial hands over real API and MCP calls without a card, the read endpoints are plain authenticated GET requests, and the full responses behind every metric come back with their citations attached.

The allowance is what to size. At 2,000 requests a month on Standard, a daily or weekly refresh of a few reports is comfortable, but polling prompt by prompt across many reports is not, and nothing can be topped up. If the arithmetic fails on Standard, weigh Premium at $489 against simply pulling the data less often.

Budget for engines separately, since the base plan covers only ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot. And if the data only needs to reach a spreadsheet once a month, Lite's JSON export of raw responses does that for $29 without touching the API.

Otterly.AI FAQ

  • How much does Otterly.AI cost per month?
Lite is $29 a month, Standard $189 and Premium $489, with Enterprise quoted from $1,000, less 15% on a yearly contract. European visitors see the same numbers in euros. Engines beyond ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot cost extra, and so do prompts beyond the plan allowance.
  • Which Otterly.AI plan includes API access?
Standard, Premium and custom Enterprise plans. Standard includes 2,000 API requests a month and Premium 5,000, and Otterly does not sell extra requests, so the way past the cap is upgrading. Lite at $29 has no API and no MCP server, although its raw response export covers occasional pulls.
  • Can I test the Otterly.AI API during the free trial?
You can. Otterly's help centre says trial users can create a key and start testing straight away, and it lists 1,000 API calls and 1,000 MCP calls in a seven-day trial with no card, alongside 50 prompts. The MCP marketing page mentions a 14-day trial, so check the length at signup.
  • What does the Otterly.AI API return?
Brand report statistics with coverage, rank and a sentiment split; cited URLs with domain categories; full AI responses per engine with mentions, citations, ads, shopping results and search queries; recommendations; agent traffic on your own domains; and GEO audit results. The machine-readable spec sits at data.otterly.ai/v1/openapi.json.
  • What are the Otterly.AI API rate limits?
Two ceilings apply. The monthly allowance is 2,000 requests on Standard and 5,000 on Premium, and the rate limit is 2,000 requests per rolling five-minute window. Calls are list-based, so a single request can return a report's whole prompt set rather than costing one request per prompt.
  • Does Otterly.AI have an MCP server?
It does, at data.otterly.ai/mcp over streamable HTTP, with tools mapped one to one onto the REST endpoints. Sign-in is OAuth only and API keys are refused, which suits Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor but not an unattended script. Standard includes 2,000 MCP calls a month and Premium 5,000.
  • What do Otterly.AI ratings and hands-on tests show?
On OMR Reviews, the German-market review platform, Otterly scores 4.8 from 56 reviews, though seven of the first 15 were incentivised and the profile is vendor-managed. Reddit testers call it useful for direction and alerts rather than client-grade rank tracking, and one had to correct its automatic competitor list. Capterra shows no reviews.
  • Otterly.AI or Peec AI for programmatic access?
Otterly sells a REST API with a printed request allowance from $189 and lets the trial use it. Peec bundles MCP access with its entry plan, but its own docs keep the REST API to Enterprise customers. For a conventional pipeline Otterly is the simpler purchase; for work inside an AI assistant, try both.

This is an independent review. We have no affiliate relationship with Otterly.AI, earn nothing if you sign up, and no provider pays for placement in the directory. Prices were read from the vendor's own pages in September 2026 and change without notice. One thing to weigh: busyless runs its own LLM visibility tracker for clients. It is not sold on its own, but it does the same job as Otterly.AI, so read this review with that in mind.
