SE Ranking API review
Best value all-rounder
SE Ranking is the least-discussed of the full-stack providers and one of the better-value ones. The Data API returns keyword volumes, backlink profiles, SERP results, AI search results and site audit data, billed in credits, and it is genuinely available as a standalone product with no platform subscription underneath.
Two things set it apart from the more expensive incumbents. It tracks AI Overviews and LLM search results as a first-class dataset rather than an add-on, and it ships a native MCP server that connects the data directly to Claude or a similar client. For an SEO team building AI-era reporting, that combination is currently unusual at this price.
Who SE Ranking API is for
Agencies and SaaS teams that need a broad dataset without a four-figure monthly floor, and anyone whose reporting now has to cover AI search alongside classic rankings. The 100,000-credit trial is large enough to build a real proof of concept, which is rare in this category.
Strengths and limits
What it does well
- Available standalone. No platform subscription is required, which is the opposite of the Semrush model.
- AI Overview and LLM search data is built in rather than sold as a separate premium product.
- A native MCP server, so the data is queryable from Claude and other AI clients without writing an integration.
- A 14-day trial carrying 100,000 credits, enough to validate the data against your own known numbers before paying.
Where it falls short
- Much smaller brand presence than Ahrefs or Semrush, so there is less community code and fewer worked examples to copy.
- Backlink index depth does not match Ahrefs, which remains the reference point for link analysis.
- Credit consumption varies by endpoint, so a headline credit count does not translate cleanly into a number of useful queries.
SE Ranking API pricing
Credits are the unit. The API add-on starts at $45 a month for 3 million additional credits, and a standalone API package starts around $318 a year for 24 million credits. Platform plans also bundle Research API credits: Core at $103.20 a month on annual billing includes 25,000, and Growth at $223.20 includes 100,000.
The trial is the part worth using. Fourteen days with 100,000 credits is enough to run your real query shapes and see what they actually consume before committing to a package size.
Verdict
The best value here for teams that need broad coverage without a $500 floor, and currently the most sensible pick if AI search visibility is part of your reporting. It will not replace Ahrefs for deep link work, but for keyword, SERP, rank and AI data it does the job at a fraction of the price. Run the trial credits against your own numbers first.
